$30 requires a port in, which is still available. Now you get a new number for $50.

Thanks! I can understand that, having seen other deals that are just 2 months.

But besides that, is it a bad deal $$ wise if you're not in a hurry to unlock?

edited: oh wait, just reread your reply and it sounds like 6 months ACTIVE service needed, got it

So the service has to be active for 6 months?

Yes, it has to be 6 months of active service, but you're basically paying for it to begin with. The 3 months of the $60 plan becomes 6 months of the $30 plan. In the past, people liked these deals because you would activate the phone, switch to the $30 plan and let the phone sit in a draw until 6 months when you can unlock it.
Nowadays people prefer to pay more for the 2 months (pay for the 1st month, don't pay for the 2nd month and get no service) unlock deals. People also don't like Cricket because it's AT&T. Depending on where you are, service can be terrible. So 6 months of bad service is worse than 1 month of good service + 1 month of no service.

It's a decent deal if you either plan to use the service or just want an unlock phone in 6 months. The active service is what you're mainly paying for. The 3 months of the $60 plan can be converted to the 6 months of the $30 plan.
My prediction is that they might eventually make this free with 3 months of $60 plan. But people will still downvote this because it's still 6 months to unlock. Plus Cricket is AT&T.

It's just toggling the two options. Their link defaults to the "I'm brining my number" $30 option.

It really depends on where you live. From what I gather, people tend to have sub par service with them. I live in a big city so service is decent. If price was not an issue, I would definitely choose one of the other big carriers for more reliable service.

Anybody have the link to buy a number to use as a port number? I did it before but don't have the link… Al least to a legit working portable source number
