      It's candy paste. It's expected.

I went from "wth is this?" to having this on bread, like "woah, this is way better than jam/marmalade" lol.
I bought it from a local grocery store though. so can't comment on Amazon.

Cuban here - this is used to make Pastalitos. Typically this is eaten with Cuban crackers and cream cheese. Guava paste + cream cheese is life changing. Thank me later.

While I had no clue of what this is, I watched this youtube video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z...gCCLQtdGG8 seems like all I have to do is put this with pound cake, cream cheese and a slice of mint. Pretty easy to make, I will give a try.

It's super thick jelly, very sweet too. Cut thin slices and try it on a cracker or with cheese.

great as an accompanier to cheese on a board, serve it with manchego or something similar, a little slice of this on a slice of manchego on a cracker is awesome

On a somewhat related note, I recently found this month (Feb) that my local* Costco was carrying two packs of 28oz jars of guava jelly (~$9). A little surprising as it's not the most common of flavors and they've never had it before that I've seen, after around 20 years of membership. Tastes fine and reminiscent of guava pastelitos I had back in Miami years ago.

*Haven't tried to check, so might just be regional or specific stores carrying the guava jelly.

Maybe this will taste good if I use it as a spread and put it on toasted bread? Has anyone done this before?
It is not spreadable, rather meant to be eaten in slices or small chunks depending on what you are doing with it. I am Cuban and the most common way we use it at home is thinly sliced along with either cream cheese or queso blanco, atop Cuban crackers.

We also use the guava paste/cream cheese combo to make a "disco volador" (literally translates to "flying saucer") in a special contraption that I can only describe as an over-the-stove sandwich press...do a search for "Cuban disco volador" and you'll see what I mean. The end result is a perfectly sealed, warm and melty guava and cheese sandwich.

Pro-tip: if you have one of those little marble cheese boards with the wire slicer you might prefer using that to slice the guava paste since it is rather sticky.

This is the weirdest "I don't know what this is, but it's on sale so I'll buy it" deal I've gotten on Slickdeals so far
      Update: it's really good!
