Just FYI, if you give these to kids, they can seriously burn themselves if they touch the lens. I have two of these and they get extremely hot at the magnifying lens end and I learned the hard way. And don't set them down turned on face down. They will burn whatever you put it on. (again, learned that the hard way).

I am wondering if this one also can take 18650 recharable battery instead of 3 AAA battery.
I have a few 18650 batteries. The description does mention that it can take " a single rechargeable battery", but didn't mention the size .

Thanks for the warning!

In for this deal - you cannot have enough flashlights! I love the fact that they come with lanyards as I usually hang flashlights in areas I am usually needing them in, like the basement, attic, garage, office, etc. I will also use neodymium magnets to attach them to, for example, a metal lamp column in my office so they're always where I need them. I have a split level house with 5 levels so having multiple cheap flashlights stored in different areas eliminates the time spent in remembering where I last left a flashlight and trudging up and down the stairs to fetch it.

seriously, $6 is about all they're worth. Fine for $3 ea, but nothing to get excited about IMO. Also, just have to love the "upgraded XML T6 LED beads!" spec blurb (in the thumbnail pic for their 1st video.). As if using a 10+ year old LED was any kind of bonus, except over whatever cheap !#%!# they were using previously.

I'd argue you might confuse price with value. I have China lights that are probably pushing fifteen years old and the value gained is almost unbelievable when I only paid a couple bucks for most of them. One out of maybe fifteen has failed over that period. I passed some down to kids that were babies when I got them and they are still going. That is definitely worth $3.

Sometimes I think myself silly for me to be chasing new features, specs and higher prices when the more basic lights meet most of my needs and are really the better value. Don't get me wrong I like my fancier ones but that is kind of just an ego thing. These taking 18650 definitely adds to value.

Thanks for the heads up, I will pass on these as my son will likely use them and leave them around. I'm a flashlight noob, is that a common issue? I wouldn't think they would get hot enough to cause serious burns

I have lots of these around the house, one in most rooms, all powered by 18650 cells. I think I paid like ~$2 years ago. They are not super reliable, but will do the job fine.

I think the problem and I hesitate to even to call it a problem is the focusing feature. Maybe look for light without that and that has more diffuse beam. The focusing feature is acting like a magnifying glass is my assumption and the light probably is not dealing with the heat real well. There are options for other LED lights with added cost that have a step down feature built in that stops risk of overheating the LED but even on those the head can get hot and not be something you want to touch. More lumen output is always going to bring more heat and more features are going to cost more.

I don't have these but would say that in general that no it would not cause a serious burn but they can get hot and I worry more about them being left on unattended. If you son is of an age where he quickly figures out not to grab the hot part he should be fine but that is all up to you.

I will say that I find the value gained from high lumen lights worth some risk. There is always risk involved in everything and we put our kids in cars which is horrendously risky. I keep sharp knives in the kitchen drawer and am not risk averse as many are. Have to keep it all in perspective and weigh them to make yourself comfortable. That being said I would give a kid a knife as a gift and probably would do the same for with these lights. I have left my six year old granddaughter handle and use lights of this power but not keep one. In another year or two I probably will.

If that is not your thing maybe look at some of the single AA or 14500 options if you are concerned about heat but even then the one that melted my computer mat was probably ten or more years old and less powerful than these but was zoomable one also.

Perfect for keeping one by the toilet, you never know.
Yes, I have one in the bathroom. Good to check inside the mouth, or the stool condition, if necessary.

The only downside I see is that you have to remove the 18650 cell in order to charge it, I saw other flashlights of this type with a build in usb-c port for charging.

That is true but the rechargeable ones I doubt will be this price

The advantage of replaceable 18650 or AAA batteries is that you can swap in a fresh set of batteries and use the flashlight right away. With the ones that have a built-in battery, once the battery dies, you have to wait until it is charged again before you can use it.

Of course, you will also need an extra set of batteries if you want that advantage of being able to swap in fully charged cells.

I'm really on the fence about these--have them in my cart and am all set to pull the trigger. But I have a light like this that uses a 18650 cell, and I ilike it a lot, but when I need to use a flashlight for an extended period of time, I end up using one of my good headlamps--one that is zoomable and almost as bright as the one using the 18650 cell.

That is more convenient and comfortable when out walking/hiking/camping or needing lighting for extended periods while I keep my hands free.

If I just need light just to see something in the dark for a short time--I just use the flashlight on my phone.

So ... it's still sitting in my cart and I'm hesitating on hitting the "Place your order" button ... .

Update: OK, so I decided to get it: $3 apiece since I already have 18650 batteries to use with them. One use case I can think of: tape clear red plastic over it and use it as a very bright blinking tail light for a bike strapped to the back rack.

The reviews mention that it can take 18650 batteries, so that would be about $5 apiece if you wanted to use Lithium rechargeables, versus about $2.50 for three AAA rechargeable NiMH batteries.

EDIT: If you've got 18650 batteries, definitely use those. It's probably worth paying double for 18650 batteries over rechargeable AAA NiMH, as the Lithium 18650 will ikely last longer in the flashlight as well as have more recharge cycles. You may also want to wait for deals with flashlights that include a rechargeable battery for around the same total price of $7-$10.
Yes it can! I received mine yesterday.
