Any benefits for pcie 5x2 or is that pretty much the same as pcie 4x4? Also wouldn't most boards only allow 1 pcie 5 device say RTX 50 series to go full speed at x16 but if you drop this drive into another pcie 5 slot then you would halve the GPU speed.

I did find a 2TB from staples on clearance and this evo one is at the same price so debating on pcie 4 or 5 and less wattage on the evo is better or not. All data is saying the pro is better in raw performance.

Staples price is so inflated, do they price match with any other retailers?
I doubt it. The only time I buy anything from them these days is when they're on clearance.

This or the Pro for an external Thunderbolt 4 drive for a M4 Mac Mini?
Definitely the EVO Plus. The biggest problem with external enclosures is their inability to properly cool the hard drive. Even the best external enclosures probably can't cool the Pro enough during long sustained writes to avoid thermal throttling.

Same question on my end. Likely will pick this up if it is indeed compatible with PS5. I seem to run out of space all the time which is weird cuz I don't play/install a ton on it. I just think games are so damn large these days.

Just looked up some m.2 heatsinks on Amazon and they are really cheap at around $10

Got it, thanks. Definitely not going to cheap out on the enclosure regardless, but had hoped that the right enclosure would be able to keep it cool. Kinda landed on this one (link below - currently sold out on Amazon but regularly at the same price), which provides passive cooling but appears to be very well built - relative to UGREEN and other similar options with active cooling. So, you think it won't be able to keep up w/ the Pro's needs, and the Plus is likely to run just as fast due to thermal throttling?

If you have a Ryzen 8000 series CPU, your motherboard might be proving 2 lanes of PCIe 5.0 or less to the M.2 slots instead of x4. I've seen that. Motherboard manufacturers seem to be all over the place.

The 990 Evo is not great and not worth saving a few $.

990 Pro heats up quickly and will throttle even in reputable fan cooled enclosures. The enclosure you listed has a good reputation but I don't own but I doubt it would be a wise choose judging by how quickly the 990 throttles in other tests I've seen. You can probably find more information on that combination with an internet search, both are popular product.

It's okay. It's a sure thing.

But for $100, you can get a reasonably well performing MP44L. Rock bottom pricing for a 2TB SATA drive is $80.

I'm planning to get the 9900x for video editing and monhun wilds. All the benchmarks does seem like the pro is still better for performance unless power and heat is a problem.

I took a look at the board I was going to get and it could support 2 PCIe 5 device granted I don't use a USB 4 device but those are rare.
