This 5i or the 7i (will add 32 gb ram), which one do you suggest? I purchased the 5i already and am thinking about returning it since wifi is super slow.

The RAM is an easy upgrade, so personally I'd look more at the other specs. That said, 32GB of RAM is definitely beneficial, I regularly use more than 16.

The 5i has no Thunderbolt or USB 4, a smaller battery, and fewer ports on the back(more on the sides). The case on the 7i is more premium, but the 5i is still sturdy and well constructed, as is typical for Lenovo. Technically the RTX 4060 power is limited to 115 watts instead of the full 140, but the 4060 doesn't use more than 100watts outside of furmark, so this doesn't impact gaming performance at all. The Wi-Fi in the 5i benchmarks well, so I'm not sure why you're seeing slow Wi-Fi performance. The Wi-Fi card is user upgradeable.

If it were me, I'd go for the 7i, but they're both good laptops, and overall very similar.

I bought this when it was posted a couple of months ago. No major problems so far. Only small issue is the legion app defaulting the keyboard backlight settings sometimes. Only downside is battery life, but I knew that going in.

We are going to see a lot of open box deals for 40 series gaming laptops from Best Buy over the next few weeks. I've learned from their employees it's mostly their display models being retired and replaced with newer models (50 series), not returns. I got a Legion 5 pro 13700hx / 4070 system in excellent condition for $600 and change last year. Felt like I was robbing the place. The conditions don't necessarily mean damage or scratches. For example, Excellent is has original box and all accessories. Good can simply be the box is missing but the laptop is like-new (this was my case, it came in a generic Best Buy box). Fair can mean the box and the adapter is missing but the laptop is like-new (this a. Any quality is worth buying and checking out. You can inspect it at pickup and say no thanks.

This was all when a good deal for the same laptop was a certified refurbished on Ebay for twice the price.

Also, Lenovo offered me a 32 month on-site warranty extension for less than $100 after a coupon on their site when I registered it.

So I highly recommend keeping an eye on their site if you are in the market.

Good info, thanks!

If you are planning to buy a laptop that may have been left plugged in for long periods of time, I'd recommend running a battery report to see if the battery capacity and health have decreased. You can check this using the built in Windows battery report:

https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-g...rt-4587396

Lenovo does offer a battery health mode that keeps the battery at 80%, preventing degradation, but I don't know if Best Buy enables that for their display models.

Agreed. I snagged a Zephyrus G14 when it was on sale for $1074 the other day and dang I like the white way more than I thought I would.

BB is clearing out a lot of '23/24 models now since new 5xxx series laptops are dropping in around mid March/early april.. Keep an eye out for other brands like Asus, XPS etc.

I bought the premium all white Asus G16 with 32gb ram, 4070 rtx and amd with oled for $1600 some weeks back. They only had it instore so I drove 40 miles to get it and it was in pristine condition (open box excellent).

And also note that for warranty coverage, call the manufacturer and email them a copy of the BB receipt and they'll update the warranty to start from YOUR date of purchase ...not the original.

Mine was registered back in Dec '24 and Asus TS updated it to reflect Jan of this year...just had to email them a copy of the BB receipt.

I had a older Acer helious with rtx 4060 and it struggled at 1440p gaming but my new Asus G16 with 4070rtx handles 1440p a lot better.
