Amazon has Stonemaier Games: Red Rising Strategy Board Game on sale for $10.99. Shipping is free w/ Prime or on $35+ orders.

Thanks to Deal Hunter StrongWeather642 for finding this deal.
  • Note, product must be sold/shipped by Amazon
Product Info:
  • Enter the futuristic universe of Red Rising, based on the exciting book series by Pierce Brown featuring a dystopian society divided into fourteen castes.
  • You represent a house attempting to rise to power as you piece together an assortment of followers (represented by your hand of cards). Will you break the chains of the Society or embrace the dominance of the Golds?
  • Start with a hand of 5 cards, and on your turn, deploy 1 of those cards to a location on the board, activating that card's deploy benefit. Gain the top card from another location or the deck, gaining that location's benefit and adding the card to your hand as you enhance your end-game point total.
  • Lots of easter eggs to explore and attention to detail. Knowledge of the books heightens your enjoyment, but it is not necessary to love the game.
  • Designed by Alexander Schmidt and Jamey Stegmaier (Scythe). Illustrated by Miles Bensky (Rolling Realms), Jacqui Davis (Viticulture), and Justin Wong.
  • Hand Management, Set Collection, and Variable Player Powers. Heavily inspired by the game Fantasy Realms. Easy to learn, hard to master!
  • Features an Automa to play against in a single player game for a fun solitaire experience. The Automa simulates an opponent for you to compete against, while your game as a player remains the same. On the Automa's turn, flip a card to see what action it takes.
  • Ages 14+
  • 1-6 Players

FWIW, grabbed this last time it popped up on SD... i think it was $8.99 (sorry you can't use a time machine to get back to that price point) Haven't even opened it since I decided to read the books first. Smilie The books read like a mix of the Hunger Games series, Divergent series, and a little bit of Ender's Game (the first book, not the sequels) so if those float boats, see if you can borrow them from your library.

Pretty basic (for these days) game management with some very attractive cards. As a fan of the books I found it very enjoyable and easily worth this price.

My teenager didn't know the series but still found the game enjoyable and asked to play it again.

Love the books, love other Stonemaier games, but there's a reason this one goes on sale so often; it's a lot of set up and time to play and rarely very satisfying (in my experience).

Fantasy Realms does this type of game better IMO.

This game doesn't require that much set up at all. Placing a few tokens on the board and shuffling and dealing cards.

I was gonna say, set up is like... draw cards and put a piece of cardboard down.

The game was a little overwhelming round one. We all started playing with no real strategy or knowledge of what cards were in the deck, but we ended up figuring things out eventually. You start learning the pattern of what each color will do for your deck. Round two, the game was COMPLETELY different with fully new strategies in play just because a few Gold cards started out in the field. There are SO many cards. I feel like you could play this 10 times before you even see a repeat card, which is super fun. Finding main characters pop up is a lot of fun as well.

As someone who has never read the books, the game for me was meh. It's SUPER cheap for the quality of physical game you get, but this seems like a shelf-filler to me. I have no desire to play it again, but it wasn't a bad game. There's just an opportunity cost to investing in a mid game.

The review I watched on YouTube reminded me a bit of Marvel Remix, though they referenced a different game in comparison. Seemed pretty simple, but too much of a luck of the draw to be enjoyable for me. There are lots of cards in the deck you'll never see in a given game. Marvel Remix didn't have much replay value for me, so I don't think this would either.

It has gone on sale from time to time and I always looked at reviews and seems underwhelming despite the positive scores....I'm glad I'm not alone and overlooking something.

Seems like fans of this whatever it came from will enjoy it more.

just because it's a low price doesn't mean it's a bad game. that's baby logic bro. it's been out for 4 years.
