Yes, that's true. And if you don't want to get 5 years, you can get 3 years for $38 ($12.67/year compared to $11/year for the 5 year offer. And it looks like there may be a gift of a courier bag, but it isn't clear— they just show the image of the bag.
If you go through their website, they only have a $15/one year w/ auto renewal, $55 for 3 years, and $79 for 5 years, and no mention of a gift. So this SD deal seems to be the best offer if you're interested in an AARP membership.

EDIT: Also, if you sign up for a membership, there is a box you can check so that they don't send you any more snail mail—you can elect to receive their card and promotions by e- mail only. I may join so they will stop sending me promotional mail to my mailbox all the time! Wink

DID you know that the age limit to join in is I believe the 40's or so?

Actually, the minimum age to join is 18:

However, certain benefits are only available to those over a certain age, such as 50.

Signing up for their membership is like paying to have them sell your info for marketing purposes...totally regretted it.
