Yes, that's true. And if you don't want to get 5 years, you can get 3 years for $38 ($12.67/year compared to $11/year for the 5 year offer. And it looks like there may be a gift of a courier bag, but it isn't clear— they just show the image of the bag.
If you go through their website, they only have a $15/one year w/ auto renewal, $55 for 3 years, and $79 for 5 years, and no mention of a gift. So this SD deal seems to be the best offer if you're interested in an AARP membership.

EDIT: Also, if you sign up for a membership, there is a box you can check so that they don't send you any more snail mail—you can elect to receive their card and promotions by e- mail only. I may join so they will stop sending me promotional mail to my mailbox all the time!

Actually, the minimum age to join is 18:
https://www.aarp.org/membership/age-requirement/

However, certain benefits are only available to those over a certain age, such as 50.

Signing up for their membership is like paying to have them sell your info for marketing purposes...totally regretted it.

There's a $11 per year membership offer using that link of OP's right now, valid till 12/09/25. Not sure if it can be used to add more years to an existing membership

They have a better rate for a VSP vision plan that has more benefits than the non AARP VSP vision plans that are available. I was planning to do a VSP vision plan, but thankfully I saw that AARP had a better VSP vision plan available before I pulled the trigger on buying a VSP vision plan.

ALSO, regular Walmart W+ members can get $40 off/year for their regular W+ membership. I don't know if it would have combined with the Black Friday 50% off W+ membership, but outside of the Black Friday sale you can get a discounted W+ membership for $58/year with AARP instead of the usual price of $98/year.

There are other discounts as well, and you can join Hartford vehicle insurance if you're an AARP member.

Anyone else having failures trying to use the form on the destination site to join? The form is completed successfully, tried digital or mailed options but keep getting red text error at top of page over past 2 weekends

There was an error processing your request. If you continue to have problems, please call 1-800-303-4222 for assistance between the hours of 8AM to 8PM ET, Monday through Friday.
I even played around on the non-campaign based aarp.org and the same form errors occur there. The account won't create and I am stuck unfortunately. Needs this for my parents to combine with Consumer Cellular offer for 2 lines at $55 plan to get rid of their $147/mo Verizon terrible bill.
