I believe it is the shape of the metal object that decides whether it's safe to use or not. I was surprised when I learned that.

Sure, but once it's got a scratchy scratch, then it's gonna sparky spark…and maybe go boom boom.

I watched a promo video for an early microwave and they used to advertise that you could put metal in there as long as you followed a set of guidelines. I think the tldr was that you don't want short bridges for metal to arc across. I am not condoning this behavior.
Also no sharp points, dents, etc. Microwave-generated electric fields like to pile up voltage at sharp points (and then arc)

That's what I was thinking..But based on their website "These ones, with double-walled sides and an anti-skid rubber base, however, are microwave safe as long as you put on the airtight lid."
It's the shape. As long as the metal isn't thin or pointed then no problems (so foil and forks are no go, and CDs and DVDs die spectacularly). Spoons that are all metal and rounded at both ends are ok but most spoons have a handle are fixed with a spike to mount them - which like a fork is a problem.

Our first microwave had the metal rack (like in an oven). But I've also seen a person stick a wrapped fast food burger into a microwave and within warning them after doing so they pulled it out and there was a perfect quarter-sized whole through both the foil and burger.

Fast forward another 15 years or so and I saw someone who grew up in a poor country w/o even a stove let alone a microwave put in a foil wrapped meal -- BOOM! The amazing part was watching him dive to the floor thinking a bomb exploded as I just watched. I actually never thought he was going to even turn on the microwave and just stuck it in there to get my attention...until I heard the boom about 15 seconds later.

After sharing my metal and microwave experiences, I would also like to share I won't be getting these bowls but they could be decent mixing bowls -- maybe not the best price for those size and brand though as just general mixing bowls. I'd wait for a slicker deal for just that.

The description for the bowls are concerning:
Quote :
These are in fact microwave safe… but ONLY WITH THE LID ON and securely sealed over the metal rim of the bowl. Exposing even a small segment of the stainless steel rim while inside an operating microwave will result in arcing (high current electrical discharge) from the microwave's magnetron tube to the exposed metal edge of the bowl. This happening for more than a few seconds is guaranteed to damage the microwave with the possibility of causing a fire.
I can see why they are having a Fire Sale.

Or what about when you either don't put the lid on securely or as has happened to all of us, the lid comes off due to pressure. If you're buying this, get a car type camera to film the aftermath. Such would be good for suing afterwards and/or putting on TikTok to gain clicks and followers.
"They all have airtight, leak-proof, tempered glass lids with removable vent plugs"

It's suggested to remove the vent plug in the center of the lid before putting the lid on as it makes it easier to put the lid on around the edges and stops pressure build up from popping the lid in the microwave. The lid mainly just needs to be securely covering the edges of the bowl.

typical american litigious mindset
You're not wrong, but I have question for you. What other mechanisms do the average US citizen have to correct a corporation's behavior? In an environment where citizens can't count on the government to effectively regulate safety and marketing is more important than quality, what other levers are there for people to pull to right wrongs or affect change?
