While a great price, the 20v trimmers left something to be desired for me. Also this is like a 4 year old model, the larger better guard isn't even available anymore. I ended up getting a flexvolt attachment capable power head on ebay for like 70 bucks or less new out of box. You can then get any one of a number of trimmer attachments either from a cheap gas unit someone's selling because it's broke on marketplace, or there are a couple good ones sold separately. Sometimes direct tools has a good price on the Ryobi one. If you do choose to get this, switch it out to a Husqvarna T35 spool head, secondary to the lack of power is the pain in the rear spool on most dewalts. The T35 just works, fits on pretty much any trimmer, and has plentiful replacement parts (I've worn out a bump cap on mine once so far)

I have one of these trimmers and I hate it. The tiny guard on it lets you get hit by all kinds of chunks of flying things.

That's a great price on the flexvolt head. I can't find it, any links?

I bought one of the replacement large guards on Amazon for mine. Much better.

This thing is a beast and this is a great price. Like the other posters said I purchased a larger guard and the Husqvarna T35 spool head and it's much better. It's so powerful I have had debris hit my leg through jeans and drew blood. I also bought a shoulder harness for this because of how heavy it is. I would still recommend it only if you're in the "DeWALT universe."

Never even thought of doing this. I have a DCST970B (had one die on me and warranty replaced) and have the issue with the cut weeds hitting the shins with the default guard. I think I'll buy the one I found on Amazon where the reviewer says he can wack in shorts now. Hopefully I'm not misinterpreting his review.

This was quite a while ago, I just found someone selling what I'm betting was pallet returns, had just the power head and handle which was all I needed.

Quality of grass and weeds are more volt dependent, 20v does ok but if you have thick stuff or want to do edging etc I think the 60v works much better. Size of lawn and amount of stuff needing trimmed is more a driver of battery size, 4ah 20v or 6/2ah flexvolt is what I used on these typically for our 1/4 acre yard on a corner lot, but sometimes I'd run out before doing everything I wanted to. I don't go bigger typically just for weight balance though, I have a bunch of batteries so I just switch out.

Here to agree with the T35 upgrade. I put it on mine last summer and it's been a glorious end to the nightmare that is the Dewalt's head.
