If you have a Steam version of the OG Rocksmith game, I think you can buy this new one and then pay an optional ~$10 more to get the "Rocksmith 2014 Disc Import Tool" which gives access to the OG songs in this new version. Whether it's worth it to you to so so is entirely up to you - if you love the OG songs then it might be worth checking out.
Since you have the Real Tone cable already, this newer version is certainly worth checking out for $3. LOTS of custom songs can be added, or quite a few of the existing DLC is on steep discount on Steam right now. The custom songs are great but sometimes only have the harder difficulties or are missing either bass or rhythm parts, so you might want to get a few of the "official" DLC's while they are on sale just to see if you actually have any fun with this new version.
I just wish they would make their subscription program one big package and sell that.

You might want to try updating the chipset drivers for your system. Use the ones from Intel or AMD, not the ones provided by your laptop manufacturer.

Be sure to check out the "Mix" packs too, which are on sale as well. There are ones from pretty much every decade. For example, the "80s Mix Song Pack II" has "Don't You (Forget About Me)", "Footloose", and "I Wanna Rock", all of which would be $3 by themselves but the whole pack is just $0.95.
A 1/4" to 3.5mm guitar cable will work out of the box.
In fact, it's actually the ideal method because virtually every USB audio adapter adds latency.
In some cases, you have to enable dB boost in your microphone settings, like if your pickups aren't sensitive enough without proper amplification.
In the worst case scenario, the "no cable" patch is very easy to apply. I can't recall whether it came with an installer or you had to drag files into the same folder, but that's the extent of it.

Does anyone know how powerful of a PC would you need to run this? Thoughts on this if it would be ok on a little microPC or raspberry pi? Would be nice to have a dedicated system to just run this.
