For other Game Pass subscribers who were confused, on the console install the "Xbox Series X|S & Xbox One" version from the Xbox store. The queue will include versions for both consoles; cancel the Xbox Series X|S download.
Run the Xbox One version after downloading it. There will be an in-game upgrade from the Xbox One version to the Series X|S version. The latter version will be permanently saved to the Xbox account.

Can confirm Xbox One mentions it being a free trial but the upgrade on the title screen and a restart shows Series X/S as owned.

Glad to have it; bummed it is just the base.

Reviews say the upgrade version crashes frequently but some report a February 2025 update but don't know if it fixed anything.

Got it to work after reboot. I had to uninstall the Xbox One version, then go to the 8.99 bundle and select "Choose what to install" to select the xbox series X/S version. Thanks op!

Thx, Game Pass FTW!

I let PS Plus Extra lapse a year or two ago after Sony jacked up prices. They need to make it affordable again to be competitive w GamePass.

Great game but at this point the only people left in multiplayer are sweats who play fusions. Still has a decent story mode and single player experience.

Tried this and got the "Thank you for your purchase" message, but the game isn't showing up for me when I go to Full Library -> Owned Games. In the MS Store it does show the Series X|S version as owned. Kinda weird, no idea whether I'll retain access to this after the free play days end...

EDIT: NM, I didn't fully follow the instructions and forgot to restart my console. The game does show up in owned games after restart

Seems to have worked on series x too if you install the xbox one version from the link. Showing as owned for me after hitting the upgrade button in the game menu
