Are these ever really necessary?
I've always seen these as optional in most consumer-grade M.2 cases and have even heard some of the cheap "heatsinks" don't even dissipate heat well.

if you have a high speed m.2 drive, try to touch the controller chip when it's on. It's so hot, and yes they are made to be hot but like with all electronics heat kills. But if this thing works well? Who knows, many m.2 coolers are hit and miss.

have we come to the point we really need copper heat pipes on a nvme? i get wanting cooling, but this feels like its getting excessive.
