I have one of these (actually on our second) We have 3 kids all in Elementary school and they last about a year, maybe a little more for us before the motor gives out. We do use it A LOT. Going to buy one for when the one we are using dies, starting to slow down. But while it works it does do a good job. And we use the Ticonderosa pencils which seem to be a little harder than most. So for $10 seems worth it.

Despite what the listing says, colored pencils are the fastest way to kill this thing. At this price though, it's practically disposable. Even the replaceable cutters in the fancier models will set you back 10 bucks each

I have not found an electric one that is any good. I bought a Mitsubishi kh-20 hand crank. It is mostly plastic but damn it is fantastic.

I have to ask - is this really quiet like it implies in the name?

All the motorized sharpeners I have ever used sound like lawn mower volume.
