If you add a high quality and high CFM Fan, it runs perfectly fine. Minisforum has restricted the max TFP of the chip to 100W sustained which prevents it for overheating.
As much as I like the idea of this, I just can't justify the price. You can get a good B650 board for $200-$250, or a B850 for $250-$300. You can get a 7600X3D for $300, or if you want more cores you can spend $340-$380 and get a 7900X or 9900X.
The gist of it being that for $560 you can get a mini-ITX board and a generally higher performing CPU for the same money, and the board will have much better expandability/more ports.

7950HX 3D is almost in the same league of the desktop 7950X3D chip and let me know if you use that in a build how you are even coming closer to this price. 7950X3D alonne probably costs more than this whole package. I did not understand your logic of using a lot cheaper and less powerful desktop equivalents and then comparing it with this ,

I am not sure which review you have checked but the Notebookcheck review of the 7945HX non 3D model, it scored 70.2 points by combining all their CPU benchmarks, which falls between 75.5 point of desktop 7950X and 68.5 points of 7900X. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Min...293.0.html
On top of that, this model is having the X3D processor, meaning it will have even superior gaming performance, compared to any non X3D Desktop processors.

I've use their 7945HX which comes close to the desktop version while only using 55w. My wife plays gotcha games as a F2P and she likes to play multiple accounts through VMs, so I gave her this CPU after the 5900x wasn't enough. Not only does the mobile on desktop run fast, it also never passes 78*C with the CPU fan on a silent curve.

The people into MoDT boards are likely eyeing energy efficiency in ways that a desktop motherboard + chipset don't really compete with. I find there's a huge difference between a desktop chip's advertised TDP and how much power a built desktop draws at the wall.
What spec PCIE slot is that? My SQL box case has a spot for a mini itx board (as a 2nd mobo) and tempted to use it to mount a raid controller and build a NAS box as well as running plex

It's a Gen 5X X16 PCIe slot and mentioned in the specification section.
This is really good power for the money. The downside is that you are much more locked down than if you bought your own 7950x3d, and mini itx motherboard (which would cost more)
my issue with those MoDT is that none of the mini ITX case can fit it due to the cooler mounting options. you then put it in a mid tower, defying the purpose.
