But I've read there is a way of turning that off, no?

After all that, if you've decided that S mode doesn't sound right or helpful for you, you'll likely want to turn it off to be able to use Windows 11 with fewer restrictions. Once you turn S mode off, you'll be able to install apps that aren't on the Microsoft Store.
To turn off S mode, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Select the System page in the left-hand menu.
  3. Scroll down to the Activation category on the System page. This is where you can manage your Windows license, including being able to upgrade your edition of Windows or switch S mode on or off.
  4. Select the Activation State option, which should expand once you do. If your device is currently in S mode, you should see a button or a link that says "Switch to Windows 11 Home" or "Switch to Windows 11 Pro." Click this option.
  5. Once you press this option, you'll be redirected to the Microsoft Store which will give you more information and what to do next. There will be some text explaining what you're about to apply to your device and a 'Get' button to confirm your choice.
  6. Click the 'Get' button to confirm that you would like to switch out of S mode. This will begin the switch over process and should not take too long.
And voila, that should allow you to use the full version of Windows 11 that's no longer in S mode. You can check to see if this is the case by finding an app you trust online. I would try downloading a browser other than Microsoft Edge like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox because if you've switched out of S mode successfully, you'll be able to download and install these browsers. I hope this article has been helpful and that you enjoy using your device to your heart's content.

Windows S mode can be turned off.
However, the warranty coverage is unclear and it's also not clear if the seller is an authorized retailer with HP.
I would buy this instead and upgrade the ram and hdd myself:

There is a Chase Offer for $50 off on hp.com. Any EPP or coupon offer would stack with that.

That only has a 1600 x 900 screen for that price. +$130 if you want 1080.

There's no reason to get this from a random ebay seller when you can get this https://slickdeals.net/f/18146542-hp-laptop-17-17-3-fhd-ips-intel-core-7-150-16gb-ddr4-512gb-ssd-579-99?src=category_page for around $100 more directly from HP.

I appreciate what you're saying but that is priced at $580 and for some people that $162 difference is a lot. Also, the ebay seller seems legit with a 98.8% positive feedback and offering "30 days returns. Seller pays for return shipping." Just sayin...

The laptop here is not really brand new but opened up, which is mentioned in their description. That's how they increased the RAM. So, for a lot of people that would be a turn off.
Also, the Intel 7 150U processor is significantly better than the Ryzen in this one.

The original 8GB laptop periodically drops to $350 at Best Buy since November #1 #2 #3 #4 and was $330 on Jan 7, most of which were posted by Dr.Wajahat. FYI, you can see the Price History Graph and previous deal posts in SD desktop mode under Price Intelligence Graph/List view.

The seller buys a bunch of these, upgrades each with 8GB of DDR4 SODIMM RAM (around $15 each) for a total of 16GB and adds free shipping (and cost of doing business which includes eBay fees, tax paid, profits and chance of getting defrauded). Personally I'd stick with upgrading it myself for $345-365 total (or less since BB has decent open box discounts).

Thank you! I realized that when checking out the seller's items. I added that info and links to the listing for people who may not want to add the RAM themselves and don't mind paying a bit extra to have it done for them.

Why, this is cheaper and has the ram, upgrading to windows 11 is free. These are new and the HP warranty applies.
