For me, I made peace with that after Remake. Did I like that there were story changes? No. But did I like that they expanded on and explored more of the characters (like Jessie, Biggs and Wedge) in the game? Yes. So I just accepted that there's going to be things they changed that I didn't like but there'll also be things they'd do which I'll enjoy- and did enjoy in Rebirth.
I loved Rebirth, if it wasn't for the volume of mini-games (especially near the end) and the few unusually difficult boss fights near the end (older game these days, so don't have the time to dedicate to gaming but I didn't have any issues with difficulty until Rufus and some of the latter summons, plus the final-way-too-long boss battles) for me on standard difficulty, I would call Rebirth one of the best games this gen (so far).

I felt it was a much better game overall than ff7 remake. There were many more highs than lows.

I'm at 160 hours… just finished bonds of friendship legendary bout woo
I feel the hate is from the small but vocal crowd who didn't like the story being "padded" or changed around so it would stretch out to 3 games. I did feel a bit of "let's get on with the plot" a bit but that was me knowing the story beforehand. Once I let myself enjoy the spectacle rather than rush through, it was much more enjoyable.
I knew this was going to be special when in a dialog interaction between Cloud and Aerith that 👀 funny you mention that...

I hated it so much, it's a totally different game. But oh well.
