Amazon has the new RZ30 on sale again for $990.
If you don't need more than 9 channels, gives pretty much the main benefits of the RZ70.
Minus the power difference but preouts easily negates that.

The RZ50 is less expensive but much older with mono sub outs.

You can save another $150 going used from B&H for $858!

Wondering how much better this will be than the TX-NR6050 without using the pre outs. Got some KEF Q950's a while back on sale and a 404c. I have a 7.1 setup but feel like my ceiling speakers don't get enough juice....or maybe the KEF's either along with the center. I dunno. I'm an audio scrub but I feel like I'm missing something with the 6050

An owner on AVS confirmed that the RZ30 is susceptible to the "off by 1" bug when using DLBM or DLBC.

You can certainly use the baseline Dirac RC and ignore the bass management side until the bug is fixed but that's a personal decision! Bug hasn't been fixed in over 3 months!

The main benefit would be the better room correction.
Whether that fixes your issue is a big question mark.
Those speakers tend to like more power than their specs suggest imo.

Here is a review from someone that people often use.
He found no bug issue and was overall impressed!

Why would he? He doesn't do Dirac calibration checks against REW in his reviews!

At least Audioholics commented on symptoms of the bug in their RZ70 review. You watch Andrew Robinson reviews to feel good about your purchase...

Yes why would anyone!? 🤔

That's one of the main benefits of higher end room correction like Dirac!
Especially with sub correction/integration like DLBC!

Right - I like to keep things simple. Don't know if 100 watts is enough to drive the speakers to their desired happy state. But my 6050 def doesn't have pre-outs, so that's another major benefit.

If the 90watts on the 6050 isn't cutting it, unlikely another 10 would do much(if that's the issue).

If you're after Dirac, have you considered the Integra DRX3.4 for $579?
If it is the power, it has preouts & much less expensive!

I guess this is a good deal if you really want this specific model for some reason, but the higher specced RZ50 is often on sale for less. And for less money, it offers more power and processing for 11 channels - so you can expand it to 7.4.2 with external amping.

The only advantages I see to the RZ30 are independent control for each sub out, which is admittedly nice, and a newer HDMI switch board, but I never had any problems with the old board, with an Apple TV, Gaming PC, PS5, Switch, and Blu-ray player all hooked up. So not sure if that's worth paying extra for?

Onkyo certainly dipped into the well of "something old becomes new again"!

The RZ50s only real advantage is if you need 11 channels.
Generally the power isn't gonna be a big difference in my experience.

Only needing 9 channels you have the 7100 or Integra 3.4 depending if you need external amps.
The 3.4 is less expensive either way though.

The RZ30 comes into play if you plan on getting Dirac Bass Control & don't want something that's 4 years old with known issues.
Very likely Onkyo learned from those issues and corrected them, no reason to think not.

As I pointed out in the 2nd post of this thread, the RZ30 is less than 5 months old and is impacted by the same "off by 1" bug for DLBM/DLBC as the 2021 RZ50, DRX 5.4, as well as 2023 RZ70, 805, and DRX 8.4 receivers!

Yeah power makes no difference… lol. Might as well go with a 50W banger.

Yes that's only for the people that feel the need to continue to use REW and compare, it's not really an audible issue. 🤷🏻 ♂️

lol well I can give you one example from personal experience.

Comparing the RZ50 vs the 7100 using Klipsch RP speakers.
If there was a 20 watt advantage it was very little if at all audibly.

What is your reference?
