I have a 214CE Deluxe that was my primary acoustic for a bout 5 years and I would gladly take the J45 Studio if offered in a swap. Playabilitiy is fairly equal, but the Gibson solid back and sides, as well as a nitro finish. It will open up over time. The Taylor with sound decent, but won't be as lively due to the heavier poly finish.

Plugged in, the Taylor will sound a bit better with the ES2. The LR Baggs Element has no business in a Gibson. I would drop an Anthem or Lyric in it personally. I have an Anthem SL in my Hummingbird and a Lyric in my Guild D25 and F40. Both pickups crush the ES2. One thing of note is that the J45 is made in Montana and the 214 is made in Mexico.

I feel caveats are in order... I'm a strummer and cross picker that plays mostly electric. Finger pickers may prefer the 214 for its treble and upper mid-range clarity.

If you're looking for a slope shoulder, you should take a look at the Eastman E10SS or E20SS in the varnish finish. They can hold their own with a non-studio J45.

I haven't tried the rosewood but I recently got the walnut and I absolutely love it. Also $100 less here: https://www.americanmusical.com/p...-with-case

Great deal on this. Nicer than the just-released 'J-45 Special' that is also 1999 but only has a padded bag, not a hard case like this deal. I bought a Hummingbird Special yesterday, but would have bought this instead...arrrgghh

Gibson Demo Shop on reverb has a few 50s j45s available for around this price. Quite a bit of a better deal imo

Those Demo shop guitars have so many flaws.
