I've seen a lot of reports about Boox devices randomly breaking while sitting unused on tables and then support claims it was user caused damage and won't warranty them. I don't think I would consider buying one of these unless they offer a warranty that covered accidental damage, and then I'd factor that in to the price. There have been a lot of people looking to buy ereaders recently with Amazon's changes, and Boox's quality control and predatory warranty gateways seems to be hindering their customer adoption rate.

Do NOT buy Boox...https://www.reddit.com/r/Onyx_Boo...=t3_z05j3o
Idk, I love my Boox. It's been like 4 years since I bought my note air. I also bought the color one for my wife and she also loves hers. I leave it alone for months, and I'm not super gentle with it.

I recommend it to everyone. Just get it from a reputable us retailer, and add a warranty if you're scared. It's very good tech.

I have the Palma 2 and the Go 10.3. I love both of them. I really enjoyed my Kobo ereader but the Palma just fits in your pocket so easily.

Same.. do some research on reddit. I bailed on Boox after seeing an abnormal amount of these stories
A screen this size shouldn't have the issues described in Reddit. Having said that, Boox support sounds sketchy

I assume it's not subject to tariffs yet?
You won't be surprised by tariffs, they'll just show up as higher prices in the store. The importer pays them and passes the cost onto you.

What Amazon changes?
You can't download and backup Kindle books to pc via USB anymore. There was a lot of stir regarding this in techno-sphere but just like everything anti-consumer, but corps can walkaway with everything as usual.

No thanks. I planned on getting a different model and I don't want to risk that much money.

Am I missing something, why would we want something smaller than our cell phone to read on? Maybe I'm just missing it. We have so many similar devices like the Kindle and nook. I just don't understand why someone would want a tiny version of something like that. I barely use my Kindle and nook devices.

It's just preference. I usually decompress at the end of the day by doing a bit of light reading but sometimes I just want to lay down and read until I fall asleep. Sometimes a heavier device makes me feel like it's just weighing down on my hand a little and I want to just doze off gently with a lighter device. I've used a smartphone, an iPad mini, and a Kindle but I just go back to the smallest device I have usually for ease of falling asleep.

I will probably get lots of grief for it, but...

The Amazon Kindle Scribe last version which both has larger screen and better hardware overall was $250 from Amazon or Woot recently. Why would anyone buy this no-name gadget for comparable price?

I also like my boox. I got the palma 2 recently and it seems well made enough, but I do agree it's certainly overpriced compared to other ereaders

KOReader is fantastic on this little thing though

We'll see how it holds up over time

Boox has been around for a while in the eReader market. Looks like since 2006. See the main brand name: Onyx.

They make normal sized ereaders too and color ones. Never tried them. This size seems weird to me. I have a 6" kobo and prefer the regular book form factor.

Some of us don't want a huge device. This also runs Android so it supports apps for books checked out of libraries (Libby, Hoopla, etc). You can still use the Kindle app but you're not locked into Amazon's ecosystem.

I got all of that.

But reading that reddit post makes this purchase very iffy. I will stick to my Kindle Oasis for now even though I can't stand the Amazom Kindle ecosystem

thought this would be too small to be an ebook reader, but the regular Kindle is 6". so the screen is about the same size.
It's not really about the same size. The aspect ratio is quite different, and that makes a huge difference.
This might be 16:9 so it's not actually TOO bad.
But that's the problem with modern days phones, they all use these stupid arbitrary elongated screens so they can say "It has a 7" screen!" but it's shaped like a freaking pickle and it atrocious for reading or doing anything productive.
