Assuming we're not going to get $20 deal this year or deal with gift card. Might hold out for another week or two, but starting not too feel optimistic

After playing the H&R/Newegg pricing games for the past 3-4 years and waiting for a better deal to come this year, I finally gave up and went to FreeTaxUSA. Most likely will never go back to H&R.

FTUsa cost me $15 total for federal and state - and unlike H*R, there was no additional state e-file fees (my situation includes W2, stock sale, retirement, HSA's, etc.). Interface is just as intuitive as H&R or TurboTax.

What was the lowest this went to last year? $20? From looking at my records, I got one for FREE in 2024 (FY 2023) and paid $15 in 2023 (FY 2022).
FREE was directly from H&R Block (via email/online download).
Last year I paid $28 for the Deluxe + State and got a $20 Starbucks card with it. I don't think we're coming close to that this year.

Alright, stick with Block or try Free Tax USA?

Any product offering "free" makes me worry about privacy, someone is paying right? But seems like a lot of people like it and HR Block isn't exactly a saint among companies either.

The last recent deal was cheaper. Might be worth a few more bucks to wait especially if you owe the IRS this year.

That's what I ended up doing as well. Earned income, capital gains, interest, standard deduction, HSA/401k, so pretty standard with no issues. Two state returns though, which ended up being $14.99 each, but still cheaper than H&R block due to e-filing fees.

Just as easy as H&R block (if not easier). Just had to be okay doing taxes online vs using desktop software.

The government made them offer free tax services for those in certain income brackets. Once the government takes away those free options you'll never see this at $20 again

I pad $18 last year for deluxe+state in mid Feb. Still holding out. Maybe a fool's errand...

The data they get from many of us is probably worth a lot to them. They are better off giving this away for free in April than have user buy another software.

I don't do my taxes until the last day, so I'm holding out for a better deal. Lol

I need the premier version on discount. They are always discounting the deluxe version instead.
