It is funny Apple put out an update that lets you capture lower bit rate pro res and JPEGXL raw that take up 1/7 the space and the whole ecosystem of external storage seems silly for 97% of users.
That being said, this is a very cool device and can be used with laptops and other devices, but it is specifically designed to fit the bottom of an iPhone.

For the price, it's too much for 2tb. I'd worry about durability compared to a larger ssd.

Where is this update because I don't see the options. I run a little 1Tb ssd I made for ProRes.
There are a few crappy ones on that list for $120 but most of the reputable brands on that link are around $200.Also they're huge (physical size) in comparison to this. You're paying for the form factor here. Small and conveniently attaches to your phone without cables. You can use your phone with it attached. (Because of the form factor)If that's not important to you then you won't find this deal meaningful.

Or even an U-shaped one like this:

(Okay, I've tried neither of these so cannot vouch for the quality/durability)
Starting from $90-ish you have plenty well known brands to choose from.
