Can someone help me understand the 4050 in this? It's a big power hog at 60W relative the to the 890M and is only about 70% faster so not even double the performance? Why add a dGPU that's marginally better than the iGPU?

I'm typing this on this exact model. Love it. Super powerful. Great keyboard and touchpad, plays AAA games at high settings, has a touch screen and it's a convertible, so you can use it like a tablet or in tent mode. Not sure if I'd buy an open box in general, but that's for you to decide.

This model is excellent value. Purchasing it you will get a 13inch mirror in the form of the screen.

Got one of these a couple of months ago. It has full-speed USB4, so I built an eGPU with a 4070 Ti, and it recognizes it. Super portable machine, and if you want to slap on a full PCI video card at home, you can.

70% is more than marginally better. But most likely because these machines are marketed as creative machines and not specifically focused on gaming performance. For creators and pro apps, there's a lot of other advantages of having an NVIDIA card too like for pro apps that aren't compatible with AMD GPU acceleration. NVENC comes to mind as well, runs circles around the AMD media engine.

You actually have to pay more for the non-AI model. This is a deal because of AI.

Why do they keep using M.2 2230 on these laptops? It's not like they're saving that much more space and I basically can't use my M.2 2280 4TB SSD without hooking it up as an external drive.

I'm pretty sure you need to be present, otherwise it's easy to abuse/fraudulent claims. My packages were delivered with a third party Ontrac and you receive a text from the driver regarding delivery times, etc.

I bought this in Jan 2025 bestbuy openbox satisfactory - not a scratch on laptop with all original box etc for $1189.
I really liked the screen, power, and functionality. Alot of bloatware and updates
I set it to smart charge < 80%.
One night standard shut off with it plugged in, 24 hours later I came back and the laptop was burning hot to the touch (for i don't know how long). The touchscreen gave out, the laptop lags, the touchpad works intermittently, and the battery dies extremely quickly. The laptop literally fried. I sent it in thru Bestbuy. 3 weeks later, it came back same symptoms.
Best buy eventually gave me a $1189 credit
I believe there is something wrong with the software that caused it to literally fry
Be aware if youre interested.
