Bought an upgraded version (16g Ram / 512gb nvme)of this a few months ago. Works great as a personal server, within reason. Couple notes, it does have 2 nvme slots one being 2280 (standard), the other is a odd keyed 2242. Also only one ram slot.

Linux. I pulled the NVMe drive from this box and installed it to an external NVMe USB enclosure, and burned HAOS to it using Balena Etcher in Windows on my laptop. Reinstalled the NVMe drive in the GMKTec box and booted it up, found the DHCP IP address on my router, and then used the Web UI to finish configuration.

I'm thinking of using this to upgrade my Legends Ultimate Arcade. Anyone try Batocera with this thing? Goal would be through Dreamcast era emulation. Would I be better off with an AMD APU version?

Also, anyone give Proxmox on one of these a go? I've been running HomeAssistant on a RPi for several years now, and while while that's been fine, I do want to move to something faster. I also have some other small uses like a MPD/media server, etc. hence the desire for something like Proxmox over just Hassio.
So your basically making one of these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buUpwraBgMg check out reviews for Kinhank Mini MP100 and you can see what it can and can't do.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago for this price. It seemed to work fine using wifi however when I tried to use the ethernet port Windows said the cable wasn't connected and Proxmox showed the port down. It looks like I will have to return it for a replacement.

Anyone else have this problem?

I'd be tempted to use this one as a router, actually. The 2x 2.5 Gb interfaces are apparently i226v. The only major downsides are the soldered RAM and short m.2 2242 (?) slot, but neither should be a deal-breaker for this use case.
Iam tempted for it too. I need it to build a home VPN

I was using wifi only until I saw this post. Just hooked up ethernet and it connected right away and shows up on my network.
GMKtec NucBox G3 Plus N150 32GB ram 500GB PCIe SSD

Also ordered an M.2 2242 SATA 512GB SSD from GMKtec for the extra slot.
$40 shipped when I emailed their customer service, although now I see cheaper on amazon.
It was similar to this, but not exactly.

I think TWSC makes them different depending on the OEM. It came with it's own win pro 11 and drivers for the G3.

Any issues transcoding a single stream up to 4k? Seems plenty capable but I haven't looked into the mini PC route much.
I don't have first-hand experience so take it with a pinch of salt. But from what I understand, this will easily transcode 3 simultaneous 4K streams without breaking a sweat. Some people claim they didn't have any issues with 5 concurrent 4K streams. But of course a lot depends on your network setup etc. And number of possible streams obviously go up as you reduce resolution (this can supposedly handle 10 or more 1080p streams without issue).

That being said, if you burn in subtitles (e.g. PGS subtitles) you may be able to do just one stream; and even then it might struggle. Burning in subtitles is very heavy on the processor, and it's better to get SRT subtitles than can be decoded client-side.

Side note -- if you have something that can spin up a Plex server but doesn't handle transcoding well, (e.g. newer Synology NASs that don't have Intel processors), it might be better to invest in a client side solution instead. Even though this can handle transcoding very well, no transcoding device can match the experience of native client side decoding. Skipping, fast-forward, rewind will never be as seamless. Moreover, plex cannot transcode all possible formats (e.g. Dolby Vision Profile 5). Of course, giving up transcoding doesn't work for every use case, but if it does for you; don't buy this just to enable transcoding. I spent ~$100 on an Infuse lifetime license (Apple ecosystem only), and I now haven't had to bother with transcoding for over 2 years now. And I can play more formats than even transcoding allows, and as many parallel streams as my network bandwidth can afford. Again, not for everyone, and there might be other solutions out there. But figured it bears mentioning in case it helps someone.

I can't back up what they said about licenses for every manufacturer but the malware thing was in the AceMagic (aka acemagician/Kamrui/other brands) miniPCs a year ago.https://www.reddit.com/r/MiniPCs/..._way_onto/https://www.tomshardware.com/desk...t-shipment
I for one had the Ace magic one and because of the Malware scare I Reformatted the drives and reloaded Fresh Window 11 pro. when I check to make sure windows was Activated it said the Current Key wasn't valid. Even though I made sure that I setup windows first to make sure it was Activated before Reformatting the hard drives. I had to buy another Windows Key to make it activate. So beware if you reformat and reload windows like many are calling to do. Maybe it was because I let it sit for a year before installing it. who know just thought I would mention it.

Thats why you order things and opt for your amazon prime delivery day to think about your horrible decision so you can cancel it.

Agreed. I go for the slowest possible shipping so I have time to reflect on my life choices.

No issues at all. Assuming you have Plex Pass and are properly passing the GPU device to your Plex container (if applicable) it handles transcoding without breaking a sweat. I haven't pushed to see the max concurrent streams possible, but have seen 3 transcodes going just fine.

If you try to software transcode, it will max out the processor and basically crash the system. You really have to use the onboard GPU and do hardware transcoding.

Simple question from a not-so-complex individual.... I have an old PC (more than 10 yrs) that I use mainly for surfing the web and light home-office tasks. Lately it's been very laggy and I think it's way past time for an upgrade. Not a gamer, very seldom streamer, PC may be unused for days. Will this work for my use or is it overkill (which is fine considering the cost) or should I stick to the traditional style? Thank you in advance for your support!
