Entire first page of comments is 1 star reviews about drive failures in less than a year and being asked to ship it back to China. Let's look at the review titles..

They Want me to send it to China
Failed after 2 weeks
worked for a year
cheap yet over priced
You get what you pay for
failed after only about a year
Died
SSD Bricked After 6 months
Unfortunate
Already dead
Junk
Drive Died After 8 Months
Failed in 4.5 months
Great Price but Terrible Proformance ("It lasted for about a month and completely died")
Failed in 6 months
Cheap, on all aspect
Works good until it doesn't
Files became corrupted over a few weeks
Wont let me install windows os
Waste of money
Unreliable, died after a few months
Junk
Failed after 3 months
Died after a week of service

Why would you recommend this like it's a reasonable alternative? It isn't just slower, it's a piece of crap.

The HP FX900 has the atrocious InnoGrit IG5236 controller which is known to brick SSDs.

You know very well it's a Samsung 990 PRO, and it was just a copy paste issue. But you'll twist it to get shoppers here to pay $100 (147%) more for a slower drive.
And you very well know that "deal" was only for those with military or government credentials to get that $100 off of the price that everyone else had to pay. So stop pretending there was this ultra slick deal when a very small percentage of the people could actually access it. There is a thread still here with nearly 500 comments, most of which saying how the code doesnt work because they dont have a Samsung account with verified government employee jobs.

For a similar price I got the HP fx900 pro which has dram cache and I found it better max sustained writes as a web developer. This was my #2 option though

https://versus.com/en/hp-fx900-pr...o-plus-4tb
i finally got around to installing the 2TB 990 evo plus that's supposed to replace my 2TB FireCuda 520. i think i'm going to go back to the FireCuda. it's much snappier and feels faster overall. Crystaldiskmark confirmed my suspicions. 4kQD1 writes are half of what the FireCuda can put out. likely that lack of dram cache is the culprit. I am not impressed with this drive. i should have waited for a 990 pro deal.

It could be junk. I have experience with with that ssd. To be fair though a lot of people leaving bad reviews for 4tb drive failure of all brands have no understanding that most laptops dont have even close to proper cooling capabilities to handle 4tb m2 drives.
Imo only way to keep temps down permanently with 4tb ssd is if factory designed laptops have memory cooled same way the cpu is cooled.
I had immediate overheat shutoff problems as soon as I installed my 4tb Crucial. Temps averaged 27° with 2tb but had temps at 90° immdiately with 4tb. I added case fan holes, copper cooling plate, and got a new fan stand with stronger fans than my old stand. Temps average 50° after mods. Havent used it a lot off fan stand but it hasnt shut off once since adding the case holes and cooling plate. After experience with laptop concluded adding 4tb to my PS5 a bad idea. Temps under the ssd on my laptop when not on fan stand are far hotter than anywhere else.
Anyone adding 4tb to laptop should at minimum add a copper cooling plate. I guarantee that 99% of 4tb failures of all brands are from overheating.
While many laptops run hot, 990 EVO plus has a normal operating range to 160 degree F. These drives are designed to run very hot and not impact it's lifespan significantly. There's also nothing special about the 4tb size that makes its cooling any more challenging than smaller capacities.

No. just bad SSD. the overheating will cause temporary speed drop, but it should not kill the ssd. also, the temperature is related to ssd itself, it should run under closed environment.

Not sure how this is Frontpage. A 4TB EVO 990 PRO, which is faster than this, was like $170 during Black Friday. This is like a regular sale price that's getting the Slickdeals effect. Stop feeding inflation.
Agreed. I just got this direct from Samsung (not risking the Amazon counterfeits) for $124 with the $100 credit from the S25 Ultra for $764.

Would have been $224 with the Samsung offers discount (student, military, EPP, etc)

I expect NAND price to drop further with YMTC ramping up production in China forcing existing players to lower price

Good deal for a 4TB. This one is newer Evo Plus, not the regular Evo years ago.

This guy sounds pretty delusional, the controller is what gets hot on SSDs, not the NAND size. The main culprits for overheating are the PCIE5 , but most laptops just go up to PCIE4 which is why the Samsung 9 series supports hybrid 4x4 or 2x5 lanes. I just doesn't heat up that much because the transfers are not that fast.

The things I would do for that government coupon to come back
