Sorry, but this is irrelevant to whether this Oris deal is slick. (And many of us would rather have a genuine Oris than a fake Rolex…)
I miss the old SD.
I just checked Watchmaxx: the most expensive ORIS costs $6,500, which is a significant amount but still on the lower end for a Swiss watch. If you look at Baume & Mercier, their prices go up to $20,000. B&M also offers $1,000 entry-level pieces that could be considered "fashion watches," but overall, the brand positions itself above ORIS. So even luxury watchmakers have "fashion" models.
One last comment: I wouldn't view Rolex negatively or as something entirely different. Their entry-level pieces start at around $4,000–$5,000, which isn't drastically different from ORIS. Granted, at that price, you'd likely be looking at a 6–10-year-old model, possibly slightly vintage. But chances are, you could get your money back relatively easily if needed—a bit like the difference between Android phones and iPhones.
Edit: Up to 2k, I'd suggest to look at Tudor - it's the same company, but basically the economy class version of Rolex. They are relatively price stable too, although harder to sell.

What makes this deal unique is that nobody is selling the Divers 65 for $1000 right now, so this is an actual deal with them being ~$400 off. The Tudors they have don't have any additional discount and are essentially at market price.
