Called into T-Mobile today because I got a text saying my plan is increasing by $5/line since my older T-Mobile One plan has been the same price for 8 years. The rep told me that there is a targeted offer available to some older plans that started today 3/13/25. Bring your own device and get a free line. I had to pay $10 for a sim card, but they were able to credit me $10 to my account.

Worth a try to call in if you have an older plan. YMMV.

Wish I could add this myself online as opposed to calling. I don't need the line but I have T-Mobile Home Internet and thought about throwing this in SIM slot 2 on my GL-X3000. Fiber is getting close in my area and instead of keeping home Internet as a fallback to fiber when it gets here I could cancel the home Internet and keep this free line as the backup, saving $30 per month. Decisions, decisions.

Anyone try adding the line yourself in the app and getting the promotion?
I am on the one plan with one plus promo (2 paid and 3 free lines). Got the offer on the main line in t-life app and also got the $5/line increase text. Called the number and checked if account is eligible and added the line within 5 minutes.

The rep mentioned that you could add the line yourself through the t-life/t-mobile app and as long as your account is eligible, the line discount will get applied automatically so you could possibly just add it yourself but ymmv for sure!

Its been 3 hours since I called and added the new line - the rep I spoke with never mentioned any stipulations on whether I may or may not qualify - she just said yes you're good and added the line for me. Was charged the $10 activation fee.

But I never got a text saying the line was enrolled in the line discount ID250259 and I don't see it on the website either under promotions ( https://www.t-mobile.com/account/promotions ).

I called to verify and am now being told I didn't qualify - and now going to have to cancel the new line. The rep says because of this I won't qualify for any promotions for the next 90 days - which is total BS because I wouldn't have added the line if the rep said it wouldn't be free. I only had the line added for a few hours!

Just sharing because if you got the line added and don't see the promotion - you might have to call and reverse the changes.

EDIT: If you're unsure about the free line and whether you qualify, don't use an eSIM to activate - use a physical SIM - the reason is eSIM activates right away and if you activate it, you can't cancel the line until the end of your billing cycle, which for me is a month from now. While Customer Care did credit me back the $45 it will cost to add the line for 1 month and the $10 activation fee, it also means I am banned from any promotions for 90 days from the end of this billing cycle, really it ends up being almost 120 days. If you use a physical sim and don't activate the line, they can fully reverse everything.

I'm on Magenta Max with 10 lines. Six of my 10 lines are free. This didn't show up on my primary line (nor the first four that I checked), but one of the other family members on my plan got it in the app. So I called. Rep saw that I already have 6 free lines and she said that the system won't allow adding another if you already have more than 3 free lines.

Since some have reported success, I might try to HUCA a time or two, though I also don't want to chance that a rep manages to screw up my existing discounts since right now I have six free lines and the 20% off "Insider Hookup" of a couple of years ago, so I'm getting an outrageous deal already. Still wouldn't mind another free line if I could get it, but don't want to push too hard and screw up a good thing.
This is just strange. Your rep told you 3+ is a no go. Other's have reported 2+ is the cutoff. I'm thinking either the reps are just making stuff up or it's plan based. I had no issue with my first rep and confirmed with a different second rep. This will be my 4th free line on a One plan. If it's not reps making stuff up, I can see the free line cutoff being plan based. Magenta Max is a newer plan than the One plan. Perhaps the older plans have less of a line cap?

add the free line.
i would wait 1 billing cycle, to make sure your new free line shows up as FREE.
then cancel one of your paid line, AFTER ONE YEAR.
each account much have a minimum of 2 paid lines, or else, you have to pay for all of your free lines.
you cannot add new free voice lines, if you cancel a voice line in the past 90 days.
if you canceled a voice line, more than 90 days ago, then you can add the free voice line.
interesting.

1. so if i port out today then no free line?

2. best is:

add the free line today. then in ~May 2026. port out a paid line to att for example. and then port back in over to free line?

i see the order # email this morning with the $10 charge. Order status on Tmob website says SIM will be delivered by 3/17. Would i know the number only when i insert into a phone? This is strange. Hope no more charges on the free line or account.

Do the free lines get charged tax and telecom fees each month or are they completely free with no fees like the free data for life tablet lines?
On the One plan, all taxes and fees are included. On my 3 free lines, $0 is $0, no taxes or telecom fees.

I did receive a text saying congratulating me on my new line and discount ID250259 with a link to a promo website for my plan. I saw the new number and this discount ID. The text took about 3 hours to arrive after speaking with the rep.

Did you get the text congratulating you and listing the discount ID? If so, you can go to the link in that text and see your new number. Personally, I'm going to change it, because the area code is not what I want and inconsistent with all others on my family plan. I think you can change it when activating the sim card.

i don't know how porting out would apply. the idea is no decrease in voice line for 1 year to keep the free line FREE.

So, I did this... and now I get a bunch of texts that my other lines have been unenrolled because my account no longer meets the promotion eligibility criteria. I had 3 paid lines and 5 free lines from previous promotions.

I'd be screwed if I had to pay for all those free lines that are in use! Hoping TMo can fix this, even if I have to give up the free line I just got.

Argh!!

Anyone try to get their free line via Costco? Especially if you're on an older plan?

Some Reddit users have posted that they were not successful and others said they were and by porting in a number, got a Costco cash card plus a Visa card.
