Out of stock for quite some time.
Short of following an item waiting for it to be in stock, is there some other way to find out?

FWIW it shows in stock for pickup at one of my local stores, but if you want delivery they'll rush it out for delivery on..... May 22nd. Big Grin

Hard to tell if you're kidding here, but... the Mongoose brand is over 50 years old. Mongoose was one of the early bikes in the BMX scene and was a pretty big deal in the 80s, for sure. They're long since out of the hands of the founder, having sold out to Big Bicycle in the 80s but has been making bikes all along. I had a Mongoose gravel bike for a while nearly ten years ago via a long-gone SD.

Could've done with out the snarky "read before replying" part, but point taken.

Hyper Bicycles, Inc. was established in 1990 by former BMX Pro Clay Goldsmid. Initially the company produced high end BMX Racing frames and components. Hyper Bicycles also established an ongoing commitment to supporting riders and the sport through sponsorships of individuals and teams.

Better than a Huffy?

Hyper... No better or worse than any other generic frame manufacturer at the price point. I pulled one of their hybrid adult bikes out of a dumpster and upgraded it with some parts I had in boxes and other than the "one size fits all" problem, there's nothing inherently bad about it.

Both the Mongoose and Hyper have a rotor brake system. I'm not sure I'd want to deal with the maintenance of that on a kids bike, since they likely won't be taking advantage of it.

I know that the reviews look iffy on this bike, but it's been an excellent choice for my 9 year old, especially below $100.

I would get the mongoose for the mag wheels. Your kid's street cred/cool factor is worth more than $25.

Thanks for the helpful replies. Someone I know who assembles bikes told me Mongoose wasnt like it was a long time ago and kinda does more generic things - or at least thats how I understood it. Then again, this is just a kids bike and they will probably out grow it soon enough but thats part of why i'm on the fence. Anyway, looks out of stock now....

The mongoose was OOS around me. Neighbor kids came over, first thing I heard "no mags, trash". 😂

Neither have I. It's no high end competition bike, but the welds look good, paint had a few small imperfections, but its a bike, not like it's going to be waxed once a month. 👍 So for $50 it's a good deal for a kids bike, it's pretty light too.
Mongoose was really popular in the late 80's early 90's but now its cheap department store brand like Schwinn. It's as you said, this is a good for a kid's bike but not for competitions.

Mongoose is no longer an independent company; it's more of a brand sticker thrown on a generic frame than anything else. They are owned by Pon Holdings which has acquired a bunch of brands (not necessarily bad ones). They are relatively cheap bikes sold through department stores using the cheapest available parts. Basically, you get what you pay for, but generally things can be replaced as they go bad. There's nothing special about this bike, but there's nothing terrible about it either. As you note, it's a kids bike meant to get through a few years.

Still shows in stock for me, so it must depend on region and which specific warehouse has them available.
