This has been already posted and there is a long debate about it.

The jump from Plex to Jellyfin was pretty easy. I made that decision awhile ago after seeing the direction Plex was going. Well worth the switch. A few things are handled slightly differently, but are non-issues once you realize how they are handled.

At these prices, it's MUCH better to get Jellyfin and buy Infuse Pro lifetime!

Infuse is only on iOS... I have both iOS & Android

I second the switch to Jellyfin. I have the lifetime plexpass. I saw the money grab they are heading towards and switched. Haven't looked back. It works well.

Once they started making it harder/worse to self host I saw the writing on the wall. Thank god Jellyfin is staying the course.

Previously a paid lifetime subscription didn't seem necessary for many users. I bought it on a deal and didn't use premium level services.

However they're clearly moving away from being friendly to Freeriders. paywalling remote viewing is a huge change.

at least they are including the change with preexisting "Premium" and not adding a new/additional level of the subscription.

If I were starting fresh I'd check other providers before paying $120.

Wow. I paid $75 ages ago for lifetime. Plex is good but not great and they haven't improved the DVR in years. No way I would pay those new prices.

Is there any use for Plex if your not running a server or a homebrew DVR? I have lifetime pass but haven't had a server up in years.

Is there a different software you're using for DVR? It's the main reason I bought plex pass like 4 years ago but imo it's kind of clunky.

Wonder whether I should be buying a Lifetime Pass for the spare account I use to log in on devices at work or at friends' houses. I feel like it won't be too far down the road when they limit remote streaming to those with Plex Pass.

Important (bold emphasis mine):
To stream remotely starting on April 29, 2025, you will need a Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass subscription on your account or the admin of the Plex Media Server from which you stream will need a Plex Pass subscription on their account.

So if you have family for example who streams from your server and you're already paying/paid for a plex pass subscription, nothing changes in that aspect from what I understand.

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding, but since I own the Plex pass, and I am sharing my server to friends and family, they would be unaffected correct? Or would only those in my Plex home be unaffected?
