I could see 20 yrs ago even 10 yrs ago someone wanting this. If you do a quick search you can get a wireless camera fairly cheap these days that you can look at on your phone some even record. The time and hassle to install this is about the same of a real camera . I get that 6$ is cheap but if you care about your stuff enuf that your going to put forth the effort to install a dummy camera spend 20$ more and get a real one.
My friend got caught trespassing in the field of lights. caught but they couldn't catch him on his dirt bike So they put up one of these dummy cameras in the back fence where there was no power. I guess it can deter extremely dumb thieves, which probably describes most thieves.

These are useless these days if they don't record. The dummies is only useful if you can pair them with real cameras to make it look like you have many cameras.

Why would anybody spend money on these dumb cameras nowadays when the real cameras are dirt cheap? I just bought one with AI on sale for $11. It is 360 degrees turn, 1080p, 5G & 2.4G WiFi, and has all kinds of features like a high end one.

If you are really interested in getting something like this, you can pick up very similar cameras of this style and dome styles at Dollar Tree for about 1.25

They have their place as a deterrent in certain situations, but I don't think the average person really has much of a use case.

Won't Wyze sell you real 2MP cameras for close enough to this price?

Someone may want the deterrence without the surveillance, and the potential negative security implications that can have for the one who buys the surveillance cameras, ie being hacked and watched by weirdos.

Sorry but putting your trust in an $11 real camera is about as useful as just having a fake one. The vast majority of would be burglars will just move on after seeing a fake one, and the chance of your aliexpress camera failing is probably much higher than somebody actually breaking in despite having visible fake cameras.

I think a good quality camera is important, but these are great supplements for next to nothing.

"Looks Realistic"

🤔

(Minus those huge BNT logos which I now know to look for on all security cameras 😂)

Also everyone….just dont. I know you were thinking to buy these and install one in your local gas station, grocery store, or walmart bathroom. But don't ok!! ✅ 😆
in the Amazon listing photos it says the cameras don't ship with logos on them, it's just for the listing images

Actual criminals will likely know exactly what these look like, but it might deter dumber criminals.

Agreed. These dummies are a good idea. But I'm not liking the need for AA batteries. On the plus side, it looks like there are other models available that use solar power. And extra benefit of those is the solar panels add more visibility to the whole setup, making them hard to miss and therefore hopefully increase deterrent value. Now just have to find a slick deal on one of those.
