Make sure to invest in induction compatible cookware to get full use out of it, if you don't have it already. Also a bit of patience in learning and getting used to induction cooking, for those trying it for the first time. Other than that, it's a solid product. I bought it for $40 in 2022, still going great.

This is a cheap introduction to evaluate whether induction is your jam. For me, induction hobs like this were a gateway drug.

I now have a Frigidaire range with four induction burners topside.

Are there any plug in countertop ones that you'd recommend that come with an infinitely adjustable knob for power/temperature or at least more than 10 steps to cover a 300 degree range? The one that I had tried out couldn't easily make pancakes as one interval was too low and the next step up burned them so I constantly had to turn up and turn back down to get an intermediate temperature range that worked well.

Would this work well with a small enameled cast iron dutch oven as a slow cooker if I live in a small space and no kitchen?

Some of the Duxtop models have 20 steps. I have one, and it's great. I don't use the temperature settings because they are not really accurate, and just use the .5 through 10 settings. They cost more but are the best in the price range without going to professional ones.

I also have a Duxtop and am able to consistently make pancakes without burning them. I use a small cast iron skillet, preheat the pan on 4 (out of 10), and that tends to work fairly consistently for me. Burning could be a result of the pan -- maybe try something with a heavier bottom?

I think it would work just fine. It may not be as efficient as a slow cooker since those are insulated, but I don't see any reason it will not work. People use charcoal all the time for slow cooking in a Dutch oven, so this would be more consistent if nothing else.

Does anyone know if this model actually adjusts wattage across the entire range to hit the appropriate temp, or if it just switches on and off constantly?

I have one of these that I bought two or three years ago for like 30 bucks same one.

So I like cooking on it well enough but the main reason was I bought it would boil water faster it does not 8 q of water took 20 minutes plus to boil and it was not a rolling boil

Given that it's $30, I wouldn't count on precise temp control

There is a good chance the burner has an auto turn off feature after a period of time. The ones I've used turn off after an hour of "inactivity".
