There's a 3.5" vertical console with very similar specs (without Hall effect just regular sticks) for $20. I forget what it's called but it's on SD somewhere

I have a 36s. It's ok. Think I paid $30 for it.
Definitely worth $20 if you're just looking for something to pLay a couple games on while you're taking your kids to the pool

While the XU Mini M does have a smaller screen, that is a feature -- this is intended to be a super portable device. Additionally, versus the R36S, it has Hall Effect sticks (which will matter to some people and is otherwise unheard of at this price point) and comes with a case. Also, if you have coins on Aliexpress, you might be able to get this a bit cheaper in the Coin Store on the app.
There are several excellent choices at $25 or below in this sale which shows how competitive the handheld market has become.
