I've used both. The RSL is a much better sub.

Is the 1200 RP line much better than the 120swi previously posted a few weeks ago? It certainly weighs twice as much but isn't the frequencies range near the same on both units. I also wouldn't drive these to anywhere near max so is the 800W unnecessary as well?
R-120swi was only $150 for reference was a Costco deal. Easy return policy.
Just wondering if it was be substantial upgrade and worth it.

I have the RP-1600sw (for comparison) and the subwoofer had horrible chuffing at low hz (35 and under), I also have a OSD Trevoce 15" sub with dual passive radiators, the 15" sub hits harder, sounds better, is like 1/2 the size overall, and is cheaper. I think Klipsch kind of dropped the ball on on these subs, which is why they are going for so cheap.
For reference, i have the entire reference premier tower speaker lineup for my home theater.

My 1600sw doesn't have that problem and sounds awesome, maybe check your connections?

It's not even close. I have the Costco R-120swi hooked up to my computer with a pair of edifiers, and a 1200rp hooked up in my living room with a set of the Fives.
The 1200rp hits WAY harder, goes way lower, and has a much cleaner sound. The difference is night and day.
Going into the purchase I was fully set on being disappointed by the 1200rp, but it just hasn't been the case.
The only downside is that the 1200rp is huge. It's considerably longer than the r-120swi.

this has to be a unique situation you had. I'm running a pair of them and neither have the chuffing. Also no way the OSD out performs it. tuning is way too high on the sub.

Yes this or the RSL 10S are substantially better than the Costco sub.

He's probably talking about very low frequency excursion at higher volume levels. To get a 16 not to have any port noise either going to require a massive box or a very long port. Klipsch likely made design choices that hit a price point and really the ability to sell. Not many people want a 5 ft³ box in their living room which is one way they could have reduced max excursion port noise. dude probably had a lot of volume going with something like the depth charge scene in u-571. You can make subs flutter with that

Yes, it's night and day difference. The Costco sub is a cheap Reference model. This one is much better quality, warranty, and bass.

I would spend another $170 for the 14 inch if space or budget isn't a concern though.

2 of these will be better than 1 RP1400. 2 RP1400s would be glorious (what I have in my 14x16 theater)

With only 1 sub, you will have dead zones where some parts of the room have weak sound from the sub. having 2 subs is a lot more forgiving with placement, and you won't have to do that "sub crawl" to get good sound in every listening position.

that is why, generally speaking, 2 smaller subs outperform 1 larger sub.
