hey , i install and service garade doors for a living, if Garage door opener isnt able to lift door, that means your springs are not strong enough to lift door or not wound enough. Disconnect the motor from the door and then try to lift the door with your hands, if you are unable to or if its extremely heavy, that means your springs are not doing their job. On older motors , there is force up and force down switches, you can increase the force up since your older motor is getting weaker. But always check springs first.

There are different types of Rails for motors, so all depending what you have, but the angle iron or back hangs for the motor might not work, you might also need to change the bracket above the center pad for the spring and opener arm bracket thats connected to the top panel.

Your spring is too hard, you dont need to replace the motor. Call the guys and loosen the spring a bit and you should be fine.

You could just remove the old system and put this up, yes, everything would be included. Easy to put up, 1 person maybe an hour, will need a second person or a 2nd ladder for a few minutes partway through.
A few years back I installed one (first time) and it took me roughly 1.5 hours. After that, approx 45 min to an hour for others I have installed. Costco version appears to have a better light on motor housing and video keypad as primary differences

The exact opposite of what you said. If the door will not go up the spring needs more tension to counteract the weight of the door. The weight should be about neutralized by spring tension.

I wish Costco would start selling the Genie's again. This is a good deal, but I think I'll buy the smart model when it goes on sale

If I'm changing mine again it's going to be for smart functionality. Auto garage door closing at certain times of day/night and kids/wife being able to open with phone make a few extra duckets whenever they go on sale more than worth it.
Have been using a Meross smart attachment to my decades old opener for about 5 years now. No subscription past 35 dollar device charge. Can even ask Google to "close my garage" and it does. Routines and timed closing etc included. Best $35 ever spent.

Is there any advantage of using this for an older door that has friction and other problems making closure noisy and slow? my current opener is 3/4HP i think and still works but is pretty noisy and takes forever to

having the similar question: is the noise mostly from the motor, or the door moving along the track? so not sure if replacing the opener alone would make the whole thing quieter? Smilie

Genie as a whole doesn't work well with Ratgdo. So smart controls are hard.

And the one in this post can not connect to myq correct? How useful do you find the smart features?

Thank you for the reply.
It looks like they are not compatible, but Genie has something similar called Aladdin, but I don't know if this one has Wifi.

The smart features I like are the ability to check if the garage is open or closed on my phone, and to open and close it from my phone. I have 2 events set up - if it's open for more than 2 hours I get an alert, and if it's open at 9pm I have it close it. A few times prior to doing that I've woken up to an open garage door because someone forgot to close it. Luckily nothing was missing.

Just an FYI, I got the same functions from Chamberlains myQ devices. 3 garage doors so it was way more cost efficient to add this than 3 new openers.

Have a Genie 1550a right now, its loud and doesn't have a back up battery. I was looking at this Chamberlain 1/2HP for same price, is this Genie better with higher HP since Chamberlains quality suck now? I also read you need a dry contact adapter for Chamberlain. I use MyQ with my current Genie and it works fine with their app, I don't care to make it smart with Alexa. HD has the Genie Model 7055D - 1-1/4HP for same price.

So how quiet is "ultra-quiet", in decibels?
I think that would be subjective based on your track and wheels condition.

Garages are the last space a man owns. It's for empty boxes, tools and man tears. She doesn't want anyone seeing any of that.

Costco one is a smart opener with wifi connectivity and more feature rich.
I just got that delivered to my door and picked up the wireless keypad . The video keypad has negative reviews on it due to battery life .
