Just ordered one. My son wanted a 9a but paying an extra 50 for the real 9 is a no brainer esp since the 9a is using the old modem not the new ones the other 9 series use. Note I have been using a 9 pro xl and had upgraded from the 8 Pro due to a trade in that was too good to ignore and I like my 9 series MUCH more. None of the connectivity problems I had with 6-8 series. So I was a bit worried about the modem downgrade in the 9a for my son. Now I dont have to.

Do you know Tensor G4 is a 2022 level chip, on par with Snapdragon 8 Gen1? Snapdragon is now at Gen4. Google is selling 2022 hardware in 2025, what a disgrace.
Yet it feels faster than the iPhone 13 and S22+ (SD 8 gen 1) I picked up on here. It's not the theoretical power, it's how you USE it. Yes I know about the performance, in fact I know about all the chips on the market, including the amazing SD 8 Elite.

If Pixel phones weren't so cheap then yes you would have a point since the G4 is nothing special, and the G5 even after the switch to TSMC still looks mediocre as hell.

Though yes people are right to be mad at Google for retail price, I picked it up for $300 and in August it was free with iPhone 12 trade in so even less. At that price point it is competing with crap tier phones which it handily blows away, along with 7 years of quick updates.

The only disgrace is the 60hz screens Apple puts in their phones despite selling for $800+ when my $50 G Power has 120hz.

There are thousands of 8a users that have no issues with the 5300 modem or the optical fingerprint reader. The bad experience of a few doesn't represent the overall experience for the majority.
I've had the last three iterations of the Pixel phone and the improvement from 8 to 9 in terms of the modem is absolutely noticeable. No crazy overheating when signal is week or dropped signal. You just don't realize how inefficient the modem is until you try the better one. Also, I may be conflating both the effect of the new modem and vapor chamber cooling in the P9PXL, but it is noticeable.

Judging processors by year of release is foolish, as some new processors are essentially "downgrades" designed for specific segments of the market. If one wishes to discuss performance, compare benchmarks, not ages.

Thanks for this. Waiting for the 256gb version to come back into stock and then I'm trading in an iPhone 5S.They... offer $300 for "other iphone" that isn't on the list. The list only goes down to iphone 6. Figure... 'other iphone' must clearly be for one rung down right? 5S baby.
Damn a 5s. I thought the Iphone SE I traded in was old haha

Apparently, you have not checked benchmarks. Tensor G4's benchmark is terrible

Is it just me or do the 9s still have the heating issues? My base pixel 9 still has issues with heat, and that heat nuking the battery

I've had the Pixel 9 since last August when Best Buy paid me to take one. It is an excellent phone. Great screen, cameras and despite the fact that the iPhone 12 has faster processor it feels quite snappy and there is no lag. Battery life is excellent as well. No bloatware and immediate updates from Google for years to come.
I know that on benchmarks its around the same as an iPhone 12, but the pixel 9 is MILES ahead of my old iPhone 12 in speed for anything other than gaming. Only issue is that pixel 9 still make a ton of heat even for normal stuff like instagram or even something like the Slickdeals app

I don't remember all the details it was active November last year. Basically I got a %30 off for the google store and then it was around $700 trade in credit for pixel 8 pro. So the 9 pro xl cost me around 200 ish

These sites have a search feature—just look for "Pixel 9 New."

However, be aware that you could run into warranty issues if something goes wrong. If you buy from an unauthorized eBay seller, Google might not honor the warranty, as it typically applies only to devices purchased from authorized retailers.

While the warranty is linked to the device's IMEI number, Google may still reject claims for purchases from unauthorized sellers like eBay or similar marketplaces. It would certainly be a YMMV situation.
Keep spreading FUD....

Mine seems fine however I do us Test DPC create a work profile so I can pause apps I dont want running all the time. Like MS Teams I also use private spaces in android 15 for all the other apps I use rarely for the same reason. Ex. games and banking apps.

Imo this has more to do with the tensor and bad chip binning than the design of the device. In all honesty though, imo, the 9 pro is the best value. It's the only small phone with a complete camera package other than the more expensive iPhone 16 pro. for $150 more than the base right now, you get through 5x zoom, more ram, faster witrlesss charging, better ltpo screen, vapor chamber cooling (imo probably only going to make a miniscule difference but anything helps), and a nice build (again, imo). There's more but that's enough to justify the extra cost if you're keeping the phone for more than a 2-3 years
