Allegedly I have been refilling these non-refillable cylinders for decades. Never did the freeze the small tank, warm the big tank thing and never did I ever once mess with the over pressure safety pin - just refilled and whatever volume was there I just accepted. A toothpick or similar non-metallic object can be used to release pressure from the screw in valve before refilling for a more complete fill. After a refill listen for a leak. I had 1 eventually develop a leak and discarded it. I do write the date on the small tank when I acquired it and have at least a dozen that are 10 years old that still hold pressure just fine and a total of at least 30. Allegedly, of course.

To the people wondering how long these last in specific barbecues or stoves, these have approximately 21,000 BTUs per 1 lb cylinder. So If your barbecue is 10,000 BTUs it will run it for a little over 2 hours on high. Most camping stoves have 2 10,000 BTU burners, so it would run a stove for about an hour running both burners at max.

Good Price, but I am on a Target boycott right now. Never thought I would actually boycott a store before, but I did it.

yet once they are banned people will be forced to adapt because it is no longer convenient to be wasteful. Folks complained when seat belt laws were put into effect. Look it up. This is just gov. actually working for a better more sustainable world.
You said "look it up"
These people don't look up shit.
They just parrot Fox News.

Thanks OP, did get a couple packs of these from Target, the price is right. I use them for tailgating with a Mr. Heater Buddy, get about 4-5 hours per tank.

I'm pretty happy with our laws here in CA, actually. These tanks are extremely hard to recycle and if I care enough to have a stove that uses propane, getting a small one that is refillable is not a big deal.

If you don't live here, why even care? I swear CA lives in people's minds rent free.
Why would you need to recycle these? Just let all the gas out and throw them in the trash. Confused

To state, "banned in CA by 2028" is misleading, implying all 1lb. propane canisters are banned. The law is all 1lb. propane canisters must be reusable or refillable, starting 01/01/2028. Only 1 time use canisters will actually be banned.
Are we not specifically speaking about the green propane cans shown above? I thought that was implied.

Also, if you want to get technical, only the sale of single-use cans will be prohibited. If you still have some preban cans by then you can still use them.

What's the good cause?
Target maintains a neutral stance in regards to the Israeli government and has scaled back support of inclusion.

I got this it's a good deal. Was a little annoyed at the Target pickup. You have to go to the register on the far right which is the customer service register. Eight customers on line doing returns with one employee. Was a little annoyed because they were four other registers with employees but no customers but I guess no one can pitch in and help the poor one single guy

Awesome. Can't wait to set off a nuclear explosion when I refill these. Side note: I also ripped the tag off of my mattress. Let the pandemonium ensue

Pretty decent deal. Sams is I think a 2-pack for ~$20 right now. If daring, find a video to safely refill from a 20# tank at 50c per fill.
Like I really vucking care!

I've not bought these for a long time because I use a "propaone refill adapter" from amazon to refill them now.

Target has always supported inclusivity, lol. Just because DEI programs have gone away doesn't mean that their work ethics have. Please use your brain.

Or you could be more creative and refill them with an adapter and then repurpose the bottles for other projects like I do. Not everything has to be banned by mommy and daddy. We're not children.
Isn't requiring the 1lb canisters to be refillable exactly what you're advocating (and what CA is requiring?)

I drop empties off at HD. They don't give me a problem but ymmv
Please say more about this. I have never seen a bin or mention of recycling these containers at HD. Who do you hand them to? Or where do you leave them?

Every town/city has safe disposal sites run by local government /private entities. Google your city's name + propane tank disposal.
Mine charges $20/tank no matter the size. I took 6 of these to their private-company run event and was faced with a $120 charge.

Any cheaper ways?

And for those wondering this is not in CA.

I just go to the customer service section and ask if I can leave "these with" them "for recycling".
They just say "..sure, leave them here."
They don't have a bin or anything. Idk what they end up doing w them but I imagine they have some type of general recycling service since they've been taking them from me for years..
