For anyone on the fence or wants to know if there is a difference between console and this, take 12 minutes to watch this breakdown: https://youtu.be/na1hqx4Yi68?si=

- I also have a 30TB nas with 2000 or so movies about 500 of which are 5GB 4k yts rips. But I also like have some of my favs on physical 4k UHD to play on the projector. You can do both stream, local plex / kodi and physical it doesn't have to be one or the other.
- $300 is not a big price to pay after spending $5k or more on a entry level home theatre setup.
- I was watching a wolfman yts last week and the blacks were terrible in all the dark scenes and was worried about the projector, then I played a 4k UHD movie and realized the contrast and blacks is just a problem with the compressed rips.
- Even with a 30TB nas that would only store about 500 4K UDH movies or so in full 50 to 100 GB size. There is a huge difference with the 5GB 4k yts rips and the 60GB 4k UDH disc.

No sure if it was the set up yet...I moved in into another room and need to test it further
I updated to the most recent firmware and there was 3-4 second sound drop out with the Sony A95L and Arcam AV41 connected...two separate HDMI connections from the UB820
Surprisingly connected the $99 refurb LG UBK90 and everything was fine..LOL
Anyway, the Panasonic UB820 is now connected to a Pioneer LX805 and Hisense U8H ...through the Pioneer AVR with one HDMi cable
How recently did you try to update?
The 820 has some better upscaling tech and an "HDR optimizer". However, both of these features are mostly useless since many decent quality TVs made in the last few years come with better upscalers built in and don't need the "HDR optimizer". The 820 was built for the TVs of the mid-2010s and not the TVs of today.
The video tech in the 820 is 8 years old now. The reason the 820 is the suggested default for 4K players is that the 450 was not available in the USA until last year, so if you wanted Panasonic and Dolby Vision it was the only choice.
However, as of right now, the UB450 is mostly out of stock everywhere. If you're lucky you can find a Walmart B&M with one still on the shelf. If you're looking to upgrade to a Dolby Vision capable device over something like a PS5, I would wait until the UB450 comes back in stock. I picked mine up off the shelf a few months ago from walmart for ~$180.

Not sure when it was updated ...but I did check when I was having the dropouts and it stated I had the latest version on the update screen
The 4K disc ,Nosferatu, gave this player fits with dropouts
Additionally, my Sony UBP-8000 and X1000ESs players would not even play the disc and yes the disc was clean... In fact it was a brand new disc
The $99 refurb LG UBK90 player was popped in and it played the disc like a champ..LOL
Blu-Ray is a pixel perfect format. All these "high end" devices are doing is modifying source content.
