I have both. Straight is for getting down deep, when the ground is hard. D is for moving a lot of loose earth. The leverage on each is what makes it good for that use.
Best shovel that I ever owned when you need real strength that would break other shovels. It is overkill for light duty work because it is all steel.
In for four thanks

Mine just arrived, it's for sure stout. Definitely getting some arm gains with this one, might be a little heavy for the ladies though.

Broke one after about 7 years on the weld where the handle meets the blade digging out about 75' of mature/neglected hedges... Fiskars would not honor the warranty w/o me sending it back at my expense (more $$$ than it's worth). Am glad to get this deal (at HD though as my Target tried to charge $22.49, so I think this deal is YMMV).
I had the opposite experience. Broke the first one within a year at the weld between the handle and the blade (tree roots). Just took some pictures and they sent me a new one. Had it about 6 years now. Most all of the coating on the blade is gone, and there is some rust, but it's a shovel. It still functions just fine.

When I first read this it sounded like you were having shovel fights and just breaking all of your opponents' weak wooden shovels with your all-metal battle shovel.

Holy cow. Just used the shovel for the first time and it's a beast! Weird thing to say about a shovel, but it's amazing.

That said I'm a large male, and it's a little heavy for my wife. You'd probably want a wood or fiberglass handle if you're shoveling for hours and moving a lot of stuff as this bad boy could get fatigueing

Pressure was too great, had to order. Camel data did it. This is the buy price.

Went with HD for the free 1-day shipping at same price [homedepot.com].

To sweeten, can do the $5 coupon for email/text signup or CB.

Alternatively, buy 3x Menards shovels [menards.com], make yard art out of heads after handles break (windmill, waterwheel, etc.).

Bought this during last SD.
A steal even at the regular price.
Love this shovel for tough dirt. The weight allows you to dig deep and can be used to pry (within reason) without breaking. Welds seem well done.
If you are moving loose material, better to use a wood handle shovel. All metal is definitely heavier.

I bought this two years ago. This is an amazing deal considering the quality. Cheap lightweight shovels cost this much. I don't think many realize how sturdy this is.
