I have both. Straight is for getting down deep, when the ground is hard. D is for moving a lot of loose earth. The leverage on each is what makes it good for that use.
Best shovel that I ever owned when you need real strength that would break other shovels. It is overkill for light duty work because it is all steel.
In for four thanks

Bought it last year in May at 19 bucks. This is good. Just a reminder is heavier than wood handle shovels.

I've had this shovel for about 20 years and it's amazing. I also have the D-handle, trenching, and every other version of Fiskars shovel and yard tool I can find. Their stuff lasts forever. I dig it.

Thanks OP. Amazon deal is dead, but I was able to grab one from my Target. Bonus surprise: I had a $10 gift certificate balance, so I got this for $9.97 total.

What are the different use cases?
Digging and using it as a lever to move heavy object.

I wasn't able to get the price until I logged into my Target account... then it dropped to $17.49+tax. Solid deal.

Thanks for this!

When I got to checkout at Target and it rang up $22.49 after Circle discount I went through this post to find out if I missed some detail about the deal - but apparently the full price at my local Target is higher.

Ordered from HD for free delivery on their site before the Target clerk could come and undo my order. I would have just abandoned had I not scanned my Target barcode.

Broke one after about 7 years on the weld where the handle meets the blade digging out about 75' of mature/neglected hedges... Fiskars would not honor the warranty w/o me sending it back at my expense (more $$$ than it's worth). Am glad to get this deal (at HD though as my Target tried to charge $22.49, so I think this deal is YMMV).

DOH! I just bought one last week on Amazon, thought it was a good deal at $24.
I love these shovels, have broken too many of the wood and fiberglass handles.

I bought this shovel last year when it came up on SD. It has been the best shovel I have ever owned.

I bought a fiskar to compare it to this Menards yardworks

Fiskar is considerably better than a cheap $6 shovel. Lifetime warranty that most people have good luck with, and those cheap shovels are thinner/bend much easier than Fiskar. I went through two of the cheaper shovels before I bought a Fiskar one and have been much harder on it with no issues in 3-4 years. This is just for around the house use for me, not commercial use where it would have to stand up to 8 hours a day of leaning on to talk to coworkers...😂

I can vouch for this shovel. I removed a mature laurel that had deep roots with this. I originally tried using a standard shovel with a wooden handle and that thing snapped in half when I put some force on it to use it as a lever. This steel one didn't so much as bend an inch.
