For me it's still showing $490 when I select it for trade in. The elevated trade ins are until 5/31 if you go buy best buys terms page for that offer.

I bought this phone and I was given a sim too but I have not activated it. Is it necessary to activate and then cancel? I already have the phone with me and best buy did not ask me to activate it.

A Verizon line is already activated before you picked it up. You will need to cancel it. For that, you will need to insert that SIM in any phone to get the phone number and setup the account for cancellation.
