M4 Air also adds Wi-Fi 6E and a 12 MP webcam.
Hence, M3's are probably headed to $699 as they clear out and M4's may track to $849 by Black Friday.
I would only buy this if you never will need dual-display, and/or just want to give Apple as little money as possible. M3 wasn't a huge bump, but M4 improves performance significantly.
Problem with the 12-inch, and analysts have said Apple has/is considering that, is you have to make a new keyboard, bring back the hated gel caps, or accept it won't be as thin as the Core M model.

IMO
eBay refurbs go for around $400.

It was one of the last things I pushed for before leaving the Apple sphere. The Core M was a mistake. But an M3 ultra portable with a low resolution display would be great.
I still use my 11-inch Air every week. It's super light, and for accounting and inventory it's great.

B and H has the m3 15" 8gb/512gb for $849 right now and I am really tempted to get that. We have like 11 percent tax in my state which just sucks but I guess B and H has a pay boo store credit card where you get the tax back instantly. They do charge shipping
The 12 inch MacBook is three quarters of a pound lighter. It is so light it comes close to heavier iPad models - with a full keyboard, touchpad, and macOS. Intel really dropped the ball there, because had they not screwed up process evolution, that machine showed they could have rocked mobile computing.
Nobody questions the new machines are more powerful, but there's nothing stopping Apple from putting those designs into the lighter, smaller platforms. Multiple analysts have confirmed Apple is considering it... specifically because Intel MacBooks continue to hold the record for being lighter. And sold well in Japan and with others that have smaller hands. Again, like Steve Jobs did.
