Question: Will the phone or computer's HDD be damaged if it is placed close to the magnetic set?
A mechanical drive could potentially be affected, but flash memory and every other component should be safe.

That's because mechanical drives are literally leveraging magnetism to store data.

what do you mean 2x2? regular enclosure means regular mechanical drive?

Quote from SomethingAzn2 :
Seems like a great price if you can support 2x2 and magsafe. Otherwise, a regular enclosure is more versatile.

Is this a really good deal or just okay? Been wanting an SSD like this to transfer between iPhone and Mac, and also additional storage for Macbook. But can wait for a better deal if needed

Flash memory isn't reliable enough to be used for hardened backups.

It's better than not having a backup at all, but you really should be using mechanical drives instead.

And remember, a backup isn't a backup unless it has a backup, so get some redundancy going.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether this would be a more reliable solution for expanding the storage on a mini-pc as compared to say a Crucial BX500 2.5" SSD?

It depends on your use case.

If you're going to be running anything that requires the drive be reliably mounted at every boot, always go internal first.

USB can be very finicky, so it's better to not have anything essential running off of it.

Otherwise, external is fine and performance will be about the same.
