you want a shredding disc, which I believe both come with (I checked package contents tab for each)

The 4.5-Cup Work Bowl with small chopping blade. Looks like this one comes with it which is nice. I had to buy mine separately
13-Cup and 4.5 Cup Work Bowls
Stainless Steel Chopping Blade
Adjustable Slicing and Reversible Shredding Discs
Removable Accessory Storage Hub
Factory refurbished with 90 Day Cuisinart Warranty
Discs: 11 are available. One reason to buy a vintage model with the snap-on stem discs is the wide availability of the high quality Japanese discs for free or low cost. A new accessory disc costs $40.
Trivia: The DLC-8 was a luxury item in 1987 selling for $250 which is $699 in 2025 dollars. They came with a 30 year warranty on the Japanese motor.
Plenty of vintage DLC 8's out there to be had cheap but typically need a new bowl. My find is in like-new condition apparently hidden away in a cupboard since 1987. Has the original amber color poly carbonate work bowl. The color litho owners manual recipe book is a rare bonus. This thing is powerful , quiet and heavy like a tank, amazing.
For those who want to buy vintage if you buy a replacement bowl then make sure to get the upgraded Eastman Tritan co-polyester.
I use Vitamix for processing that was once done in the FP. Hummus and emulsifying are two things better performed by FP. Sauces, marinades I prefer the 32 oz jar V.M.

You're saying this refurb is the Japanese one or are you saying it's better to look on fb marketplace for an older one?
edit: The advanced features not present in older models can outweigh higher durability. Read the reviews.
FYI: if the processor blade of the machine you've been using has visible rivets attaching them to the plastic core, STOP using it and check this link [cpsc.gov] for recall info. They'll mail you a new, improved replacement.

Experience with a product purchased 15 years ago is likely not relevant. Materials and specifications can change mid-year now with rising costs. Price looks slick but IDK anything about these models. The Cuisinart brand was sold and changed hands in 1989, 1998, 2007.
In 2021 I posted a factory direct Kitchen Aid KFP0919 light duty 9 cup FP as a factory refurbished deal 80% off. The model number hasn't changed but the product internals have. K-A had to take back early production and replace substandard motors which died and work bowls which just fell apart. Fortunately K-A is very good about standing behind their products even after warranty runs. They've sent two new bowls but there isn't any way of fixing an engineering defect with the handle and safety interlock held together by two tiny micro screws. Disposable junk. Back in 2003 K-A was producing the KFP600, a high torque heavy duty model made in France to compete with Cuisinart. Within no time they cost-reduced it to China production.
