I'll never buy a DOT only helmet. A DOT sticker just means that the manufacturer pinky promises that the helmet would pass safety regulations from the 70s, if they ever tested it.
Europe does it right with helmets. Buy something with an ECE 22.06 rating. It's a modern standard and requires actual testing for certification.
