I did use a plate compactor for my patio pavers. It is more of a personal choice if you want to use this type of sand to "lock" your pavers. But if you prepped the base correctly and proper pitch for drainage than you can skip this type of sand. I don't have any weeds growing between my pavers.

I was extremely careful before application. I made sure it was our dry season with no indication of rain for a week or more. I carefully cleaned out all the old sand and weeds, to the point I was getting down on my hands and knees to double and triple check, pulling out stubborn growth with pliers. I used a pressure washer as clear out to make sure this polymeric sand would be going deep enough to make a difference. I tamped down all the bricks to make sure all were level.
I would advise using more than you estimate. I dumped it in a small area then brushed and brushed in all directions. Then the next area. Tamp down carefully to settle. From memory I had to water twice but made sure it was light to moderate and nothing that would relocate the sand. The last thing you want is puddling or shifting the wet sand out of the gaps and onto your solid.
The only mistake I made was not treating for ants before applying the sand. I didn't see any warning about that. It became a big issue in one section. Maddening. The damn ants burrowed upward through the still damp polymeric sand. I applied touch up but that doesn't work nearly as well as full solid the first time.
If I had to do it over again I would spray all the gaps thoroughly with ant killer for at least 2 consecutive days before applying the sand.
Anyway, this is a great deal but not available to me. I still have 2.5 containers remaining from last year.
