The better your GPU the more likely your CPU will bottleneck it. The GPU is doing most of the work but the CPU still has to keep up.

With x3d chips you're getting a large stack of ultra fast L3 memory on the chip which is great for reducing latency which is important for gaming. The trade off is higher heat so they're not quite as good for pure workstation uses. The 9900x has four more cores than the 9800x3d you won't use for gaming but only 66% the L3 memory.

Though I when I made my original comment I thought they were closer in price. The 9800x3d is $100 more.

Honestly you won't notice much difference other than how long you can go before you start noticing bottle necks.

I bought this CPU bundled with the x870e tomahawk board a few weeks ago. The bundle with 32GB RAM was 549 at the time and I upgraded to 64GB slightly faster RGB RAM for $100 more. Seemed like the best deal/value around at that time for a decent PC for my son. Glad I bought and didn't wait. Now we are waiting for RTX 50 series to become more available. Until then he's using an old RX6600.

Was on a business trip last week and the 9900x combo with X870E Tomahawk was $50 cheaper than it is currently. They didn't have the motherboard in stock except for an open box, so they knocked the $60 discount off the combo price. Upgraded to the 64GB memory kit and total was $589.99 Feel like I should have worn a mask while checking out.
