I've never tried this - as it seems like it would be a pain - but some outdoor article i read / video I watched one time mentioned using a pencil sharpener as a way to get shavings from a piece of wood while out camping / survival situation to start a fire. An alternate use idea for anyone who wants to try. In my head I just don't see it working that well.

They don't teach it anymore, even when they did it was such a short course all I learned was how to write my name, and it looks terrible 🤣🤣
