FWIW [avforums.com] "The S range is Denon's entry level AVRs, the X range is above them". For those who can wait, x1700h goes for $300 every now and then @ Costco.

Yeah, I bought a PS5 instead. I wanted to pull the trigger on it, but my aging system can wait. Mainly just looking to upgrade my amps and take advantage of some of the newer advanced sound standards from the past few years. The 970 is overkill for me probably but it's on the list since I saw it hit those price points with lots of bells and whistles.

Will probably need a new receiver due to more advancements in audio before 8K becomes relevant, if ever. Other than three 4K inputs versus one on the AVR-S960H I bought used off eBay for $180 not sure of a good reason to pay more than double.
