Oh yes they are.

Non-inverters are on and off machines. They always draw the maximum current. Either they are on or off. Every time the compressor turns on, it also affects other appliances because they have to use huge current to kick start the compressor. They maintain the desired temperature by turning off and on. No way to tell the compressor to just run at 25% to maintain desired temperature.

On the other hand, the inverter compressor versions is adjustable. It can draw as low as 100w just to maintain the desired temperature setting. I have this AC but with heater and by average, it draws 200-400w blowing just the right amount of cold air. If it's too hot, or you put it to maximum compressor speed and full fan speed, it can draw up to 1300w.
Yes I bought it and the sound noise is great. Sounds just like a fan. Night and day compared to my standard single hose condenser unit

I work from home so I run an electrical heater all hear in our basement. Works fine. For the top floor, we just don't really need the extra heat. If you just want AC or fresh air you can't beat the price on this unit
Fully agreed. I bought a 14,000 BTU Honeywell unit off Amazon 3 years ago. It sounds like the engine of an 18-wheeler truck. I paid like $700 for it.
This price is a steal and I just bought one.

"a single hose, the dual hose really..."
Confused.

Does it have a single hose, or a dual hose?
Is it a scam or not?

This price is tempting even so for a refurbished. Wondering same thing, I've always ready never get a single hose unit for a portable ac. But couldn't tell if this one actually has 2 hoses or not? Also Costco reviews are up and down. The one about its high water output and needing a bucket to drain after only 6 hours use is concerning.

Was looking to get for an upstairs room over garage that can't stay cool during summer… but if it's a pain to drain that could be a dealbreaker

A single hose unit collects hot air from the room, passes it over an evaporator coil that contains refrigerant, cools the air, and blows it back into the room. However, at the same time, some of the air is exhausted out of the room through the hose. And this happens over and over again while your air conditioner is running.

In contrast, with a dual hose unit, one hose is used to draw hot air from the room while the other is used to vent hot air outside.

Another energy measurement is the Coefficient of Performance (COP). It measures the ratio of cooling output against the amount of energy consumed. Dual hose portable air conditioners tend to have a higher COP than single hose units, again, making them more energy-efficient.

Dual hose units tend to use less power than single hose units do to achieve the same cooling effect. This is because they're better at venting hot air out of the room and, in turn, reducing the amount of energy they need to cool any given space.

I have the same exact situation the room above the garage. I have the u-shaped unit it does a good job cooling close 500 square foot, but I figured this one will be easy to install and take it from one room to another just in case.

The u shaped one is my potential alternative purchase. You get any mold issues with it? As I've read people say they'd have to drill a hole or something to help the issue?

I didn't notice anything like smell or discoloring during the summer.it's in storage right now so I cannot check it.

Missed this deal last year and paid for it when we lost power during the hurricanes. I've been burned portable ACs in the past so I hope it doesn't happen again.

Specs say hose in hose, so it sounds like this model is a "dual" hose but with just one hose.

Single hose units are basically a scam, you'll understand that quickly if you pay attention to thermodynamics in class.

The one thing that would make this even better is if it also had heat - a HiSense unit that I own has it, and it makes it also useful over the winter. Sure, price would be higher and maybe Floridians would not need it. The rest of us would.

Doesn't this unit count a dual hose? It's has a hose within a hose, which is why it's called duo.

I bought this model from Costco last year during the heat of summer. It broke on me within 2 weeks, air was no longer cold. Wondering if I should try again.
