Oh yes they are.

Non-inverters are on and off machines. They always draw the maximum current. Either they are on or off. Every time the compressor turns on, it also affects other appliances because they have to use huge current to kick start the compressor. They maintain the desired temperature by turning off and on. No way to tell the compressor to just run at 25% to maintain desired temperature.

On the other hand, the inverter compressor versions is adjustable. It can draw as low as 100w just to maintain the desired temperature setting. I have this AC but with heater and by average, it draws 200-400w blowing just the right amount of cold air. If it's too hot, or you put it to maximum compressor speed and full fan speed, it can draw up to 1300w.

I have two of those, 8000 and 10k btu. no mold but the 10k definitely collected too much water in the tray and the fins seemed to discolor because of this. i hope its not rust but it didnt look normal. so i did end up drilling a hole in the bottom to help it drain. it has worked fine like this.

the 8000 does not really have this problem, not sure why.

Yes, the compressor can be modulated to run at varying voltages

Not a scam. It has dual hose. It is just housed in the one tube for looks.

I have one with heat. Once it went below 50 degrees outside it didn't for me. YMMV

I totally agree. This is a good unit, which, yes, can be made even better. But avoidf single hose units.

Now, some dual hose models are tricky in that one of the hoses is enclosing the other.

I always get mold from window ac units eventually. Do these end up getting moldy/mildewy as well?

NO, its a marketing BS. You are paying for COMFORT, not SAVINGS.. You need electricity to cool the room and inverter does not provide any significant savings.They have same SEER rating. it can provide more comfortable and less noisy environment . It will run longer time at slow speed and low power draw comparing to a normal AC which will run ON-OFF blasting cold air.

Yes, I never had an issue with it. I live in Seattle in which the weather is more moderate, but I used it heavily for 2-3 summers and it was great. It's a really good price at $222. I am actually looking for the Midea window inverter based one now on sale.

really ? this guy on youtube did a side by side test inverter vs non inverter and he got around 40% savings.... so tested vs your opinion from what expertise ? anyway.... look up a video on youtube with the title "Inverter AC kWh consumption at 22 - 24 vs 26*C temperature (how much energy will you save)" and see the video for yourself.
